Summary:
This camera was bought for its size and weight, with goal of having good lens performance at fixed focal length rather than zoom flexibility. Picture quality with Fuji APS film is extremely good and better than I expected given mixed APS reviews. Standard 4x6 are indistinguishable from Contax T2 without very close scrutiny. Was pleased to discover focus lock capability, despite no mention in advertising materials. Flash modes work very well from close-up to fill in at 10ft or so, though re-charge time is a secod or so longer than I would like. Only very minor quibble is slightly insecure feeling to case when opened, and related tactile insecurty with shutter button. Overall, excellent for what it does.

Strengths:
size, weight, picture quality, focus lock, overall design.

Weaknesses:
sliding Ti case could perhaps have been engineered a little bit better - tends to wobble v.slightly in locked open position. slightly ill-defined feel to shutter release button (related to case engineering)

Summary:
I chose this camera mostly because it was on sale at the PX on post here in Germany. I researched it and since I have owned other Fuji products I bought this one. I was a skeptic at first due to the small film type, but I was pleasantly surprised with the results. I have currently a Nikon outfit (FM/2) and also a Mamiya 6X7. Both are too heavy to cart around with kids. I also have a Speed Graphic I haven't gotten out of the case in years. I also owned a Rollei SLX outfit when I was shooting weddings in Pittsburgh, so I know what sharpness and color saturation is all about. This camera does not match my 6X7 or 4X5 but I don't expect it to. I bought it for convenience only. Expect acceptable photographs that are on par with a good 35mm camera. Expect red-eye, and invest in Adobe Photoshop to touch the scans up. I don't think you will be disappointed in this camera as long as your expectations don't exceed what this camera type can deliver. It is my understanding that the very thin film emulsion allows APS to deliver such sharpness in a small film type. Couple that with a superb lens and you have a very usable combination. Remember the Minox cameras? You get amazing sharpness on a very small film format. Consider this a cheaper, more modern and slightly larger Minox.

Strengths:
Small size, excellent build quality, lens above average.

Weaknesses:
Flash very close to lens thus red eye. No tripod socket.

Summary:
Given the 1000ix's close focusing range, and its size, I have often taken this camera with me instead of a Minox 8x11 for closeup work. I have never been unhappy with the results from my 1000ix. I have done some very difficult closeup work in dimly lit places, with very little room for the camera, and it turned out fantastic. This camera really controls the flash great for closeup work.

Strengths:
Very small. Rugged construction. P&S, but with many features for individual control. Nice lens. Easy and quick controls. Autofocus as close as 35 cm. Flash performes great at closeup range.

Weaknesses:
Noisy. The multi-programmed flash often fires when really not needed. Would like extra program where flash is not prioritized so much. Would like to see some kind of tripod adapter for camera.

None APS, but frequent user of Minox 8x11 cameras.
