    Strength:

Lightweight and compact. Simple to use. Carl Zeiss lens. Inexpensive. Manual settings. Optical zoom, though not much.

    Weakness:

    2 megapixels. Proprietary flash card.

I use mine for action photography mostly. It's compact size makes it fit easily into a camera case strapped to a hydration pack for quick and easy access. Sure, it's not the cream of the crop, but does a decent job most of the time. I mostly use manual settings to fit the conditions/shot. I especially like the optical zoom "line" that lets you know when the camera switches from optical into digital zoom. I have dropped it a few times onto rock surfaces and it's still going strong, though the body has a few dings in it. Good camera for a burgeoning hack like me: http://www.angelfire.com/freak2/jdmtb

My Problem: About 80% of the pictures taken with the Sony DSC-P51 digital camera turn out as you would hope, but the other 20% of the pictures are pathetic and make me very frustrated. I kick myself that I didn't take it back to Circuit City before the warrantee period ended. I've been battling this camera for over a year now thinking, "maybe it's just me, maybe I don't haven't learned how to use it yet". Because sometimes the pictures turn so amazingly well, I told myself the camera has such potential, I just have to figure out it's quirks. Slowly that feeling melted away as my fustration got hotter and hotter, the Sony DSC-P51 that I bought is unpredictable. There are some examples below. I called technical support and spoke with a very polite/business like person who told me to reset the camera settings back to factory default. But he was not able to grasp the problems that I was having. He lacked the experience with the camera to quickly understand what I was talking about, and so I have erected this web page to help myself and other Sony DSC-P51 pre-owners & owners to understand the issues. If you have comments, similar experiences, examples, send an EMAIL so I can post them on this page. By the way, I'm trying to get rid of my Sony DSC-P51, any bids? Note: These pictures were taken with camera defaults, they are about 800kBytes each so if you use a modem, it will take a 2 minutes or so to download.
