Strength:

Vibrant colors, sharpness Cheap

Weakness:

400-speed grain in a 100-speed film. What's the deal?

This film has excellent color, but for some reason it's grainy like a 400 speed film. I bought a few rolls of this to take out to the Mojave Desert thinking I would capture some clear, sharp vistas. Well, this film does have good definition and great, vibrant color, but it's grainy on top of that. It's actually an interesting look if that's what you're going for. I'll stick with Reala and Gold 100, though.

Strength:

enhanced reds and yellows

Weakness:

grainy, blocked out shadows

An enhanced color film, found cheap everywhere. Grain is what Id expect from a 200 asa emulsion. Reds and yellows super pumped, greens and blues normal. Not nearly as bad as most say, however the contrast is very high and causes shadows to be blocked out quite often.

Strength:

Price. Nice greens. Good for web photo display.

Weakness:

Grainy. Limited to 4x6 5x7 prints.

Not a bad film for the price. I scanned some negatives and printed on inkjet. 8.5x11 is about as big as you can get with this film and even that is pushing it. Requires quite a bit of enhancement in Photoshop to bring out the colors. A bit grainy for the ISO 100 rating. Fun to play with but not for the serious photographer.

Weakness:

EVERYTHING, GRAIN GRAIN GRAIN GRAIN GRAIN, DULL COLOR, FAR FAR FAR FROM BEING SHARP

This is the WORST film I have ever used in my entire life. Had 2 rolls developed and threw the other 2 I had away. The color is VERY DULL and is not sharp AT ALL. the grain is HORRIBLE, looks like 1600 speed film almost. Do not even try night shots with this film, it is a joke. Stay away from this film unless youre just shooting snapshots at a party or something. Wish I could give it zero stars.

Strength:

Value!
On sale at K-mart every 2-3 months, US$4.99 for 96 exposures!
An excellent choice for everyday P&S style photography during the day.
Blows up reasonably well if properly exposed.

Weakness:

I sometimes have difficulties getting a clean scan from this film on a Canon FS2710.

I shoot a lot of "art" photos (All in the eye of the beholder, right?) at night with a Russian P&S known as the Lomo. Fuji HQ 100 produces the most saturated and vivid colors of any film I have tried in it's price category.
The color saturation with 10-90 second exposures on this film is quite surprising!
It also has very favorable reciprocity characteristics for this type of shooting.

Strength:

Great price ($4.99 for a 4 pack at Walmart) with decent color and carity. Fine grain for acceptable enlargements.

Weakness:

Not the greatest in color saturation or duplication, but good enough for a beginner like myself to learn and practice exposure and composition with.

Overall a good, cheap, general purpose film for the beginner to practice with, yet provides adequate quality and grain to keep and enlarge the pictures you want to keep.

For landscapes Fuji film is the way to go, hands down. The film is cheap and that is why I have been using it. However, as i become more serious about photography, I have noticed that the colors just don't seem to jump out as much as I would like them too. I am going to start buying Superia 100 and Reala 100 to give them a try. You can find them cheap online at places like cameraworld, B & H and Adorama.

the price! you can purcase a 4 pack/94 exposure total, at target for $6.99! color saturation was strong, and the skin tones were not bad. the superia 100 faired better!

Weakness:

none for the price!

i like this film for it's price. i use it for the times that i am just using the pictures for your average 4x5 album pix. at 5x7 the grain quality and color saturation is still magnificent. it can suprise you.

Customer Service

not needed! it's usually the processors fault. target is pretty cool about taking bad film back(expired).

Strength:

Inexpensive and has some of the most awesome Greens and saturation of any print film I have used under overcast conditions.

Weakness:

None so far for my purposes.

I have been using this to shoot waterfalls for several years which require overcast conditions and several second time exposures. You can forget Kodak it has a reddish cast and doesn't do the greens justice. I have tried all the other fuji print films and they are good but for some reason I keep coming back to the super hq for the results I get. You can look at some of my waterfalls shots and its obvious which ones were taken with Fuji and usually the super HQ.
