Review 1 of 14

Price Paid:  $450.00 from Hong Kong

Summary:

This is a lens which you will easily miss when you look at its MTF, run a few roll through you will feel the magic. Makes a very good wide angle combination with 18/4 if you like the colour and feel.

Strengths:

This lens is based on a very old design .. the Cotarex Distagon 25/2.8 from the 60s, as well as the Distagon 18/4. Wide open it is not very sharp, but witha very high resolution. Shoot some B/W and colour, compare and you will understand what I mean -- everything was out there is there on the sides/neg, just not being raszor sharp like the CZ 28/2.8, however it gives a very colourful painting like feel, it gives better colour than D28/2.8 or 21/2.8. Stopped down one otr two stops its gives very sharp image.

Weaknesses:

Not sharp enough when wide open. It is not a true 25mm, but closer to 26mm, and a bit expensive (apart from the Leica R24/2.8, this is the most expensive one in the 24/25mm class) if you prefer sharper image, you should choose 21/28 combo instead.

Review 2 of 14

Price Paid:  $300.00 from internet auction

Summary:

Not as bad as people often say. I found it sharp across the field (a little soft in the corners) with a little light fall-off in the corners. Well built.

Strengths:

Build quality, performance.

Weaknesses:

Not a terribly useful focal length for me. Found myself using the 35/2.8 or wanting wider than 25mm. Eventually sold it and got a Voigtlander 21/4 with Bessa L body.

Review 3 of 14

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:

This is the best lens I own for my Contax RX. I read some reviews stating the lens is not razor sharp and yes, the MTF is not that good. But... the slides made by this lens are amazing! The slides become a sort kind of three dimensional painting! When photographing a rainy/cloudy sky, the result is really dramatic. I have never seen this with any other lens. I enjoy this lens much more then my 50mm/1.4 and 135mm/2.8!

Strengths:

Color, 3-d effect, great angle. The lens is absolutly free of flare! (much better flare resist then my 50mm and 135mm)

Weaknesses:

None.

Summary:

This was my fathers lens. I don't know where he purchased it or for how much. It was made in West Germany and is an AE version. I love it because it is very sharp and great?xD;?xA;for street photography and for scenic shots. Like all the Zeiss optics I have used, this lens has great color rendition. I am grateful to my dad for his getting it.

Strengths:

Sharp, sweet, great color rendition.

None
