Review 2 of 14

Price Paid:  $90.00 from Adorama

Summary:

Tack sharp optics, sturdy build, and very good AF. An ideal all around lens for a very reasonable price.

Strengths:

Images are very sharp and contrasty. Build quality is very high. AF is good with Canon A2. Price is absurdly low, if you can find one to buy.

Weaknesses:

Prone to vignetting at the wide end with open arpeture, but stop down to f/5.6 - f/8 and it's not a problem. It's sturdy build may make it a little heavy for some, but I like the heft.

Customer Service:

No needed so far.

Review 3 of 14

Price Paid:  $149.00 from Adorama

Summary:

Couldn't have asked for anything more from this lens. Tack sharp optics, great build, and very good AF. The Canon version proved too *cheap* in my hands and don't get me started on the flare(!). Besides, photozone's performance survey gave the nod to the Tokina. AF slower than ring USM lenses, but not by much.

IMO, I LIKE the weight. Carrying two F1's with loo..ong lenses in the Tetons is business as usual for me. The Tokina's weight is a pleasant surprise.

Just to clarify, I dislike all bayonet hoods, not just the Tokina's.
This is a discontinued model. Be sure this works on your EOS before you buy. Hoods are difficult to find.

Strengths:

Excellent optics
Weight and build
Price

Weaknesses:

Weight
Bayonet hood
Short travel for focus ring

Review 4 of 14

Price Paid:  $159.00 from Adorama

Summary:

I am very impressed with Tokina. Surprised that their lenses aren't more popular. Try that 19-35 mm !!

Strengths:

Top notch build quality and optics. Using Fuji 400 now as a standard with all zooms, shots are all crisp and contrasty. I purchased this after I bought the Tokina 19-35 which is an amazing lens. Now I'm anxious to see the new Tokina 24-200.

Weaknesses:

A little heavy and loud, but not for the quality and price point.

Similar Products Used:

I have a Tamron 28-200 which I'm selling while it's still under warranty ! Dull photos in all but the brightest light.

Customer Service:

Very helpfull with questions.

Review 5 of 14

Summary:

A good general performer with low distorsion and high sharpness. My most used standard zoom. I've taken many good shots with it. Great, if it just were a bit lighter...
Not an ideal travelling lens.

Strengths:

* Solid construction, all metal
* High sharpness
* Low distorsion
* Non-rotating front lens element

Weaknesses:

* Aperture ring too small and too stiff (Pentax AF version)
* Quite heavy
* Autofocus slower than Pentax own lenses.

Similar Products Used:

Pentax FA 28-70 f/4 AL, Takumar A28-80 f/3.5-4.5
