from Ritz Camera Summary: I may have the predecessor because my lense is a f/4.0-5.6 60mm - 180mm IX Nikkor.
This lense was purchased along with my first SLR, a Nikon Pronea6i in 1999. I was a little hesitant about the plastic mounting, however I have put this lense through the ringer even dropped it once while climbing on some rocks. A little scuff but no real damage. This lense has performed wonderfully for me during these first two years of getting serious about photography as a hobby. I ran into a herd of Elk in the California Redwoods where the 180mm focal length gave me some great closeups of a couple of Bulls in velvet. I have even performed some 'macro' shots of our flower garden which resulted in good clarity and sharp images for what I required. I would recommend this lense to anyone who is trying to move beyond the point-and-shoots and into more creative photography. Strengths: Quick to mount Great focal lengths Durable Another high quality optic from Nikon! Weaknesses: For the price, and speed of this lense, NONE.
