Strength:

Fast focus, if set incorrectly locks shutter cloed

Weakness:

No mirror lock for long exposers

After using the Nikkormat I had decided to get a new camera so I went with the N90S & have been more than satisfied with the results. Now I have two lenses & 3 flashes including the sb26 speedlight. As long as Nikon keeps up their apature rings & infared indacator on their lenses I will always choose Nikon as their system has never disappointed me.
I studied photography & hope to become a product photograper & I will stay with the nikon system as I can use my old manual lenese on the new cameras
thank you for a reliable system

Strength:

-Build quality -Toughness -has everything you need, it's a pure picture-taking machine -excellent metering systems -excellent flash control -excellent user interface... with one flaw, described in the weaknesses section -perfect viewfinder -AA batteries -viewfinder blind -must I go on? Everything else, too :-)

Weakness:

- its control system, although brilliant, doesn't cover all its functions and a ridiculously expensive MF-26 back is needed to get something as simple as multiexposure (I don't miss any other feature it offers, though). I wish it had a shift button like the F601! - VR lenses can only work without the VR function - outrageous price tags on extras such as the dedicated release cable or the PC interface cable.

I've only bought the F90 after a period of switching back and forth between Nikon and Pentax. Both a Pentax SF7 and SFXn died on me... this discouraged me a bit so I picked a Nikon again (my first AF SLR was an F50 which has never let me down)... it was an F801 - a masterpiece of a cemera, but it lacked a spotmeter... my next pick was an F4s, but despite the wonderful solid build, some things didn't feel right - no program shift and some other details, too. Remembering the F801 very fondly I began looking for an F801s, but found this F90 instead. That's right, it's not even an F90X, it's the older F90. Well what can I say? It feels like a good old friend. Basically, it's the good old F801 body, shutter and mechanics paired with a whole new 8-field #D matrix system, new AF system, and other new electronics, and given a new external shell to make it look like a whole new model. I'm glad they didn't change the basic parts, why change perfection? It has the same brilliant layout, the same magnificent hi-eyepoint viewfinder, same indestructible mechanics, with plenty of great tiny little details added, a studio flash socket, second frame counter added in the viewfinder, LCD illumination, PC interface, custom functions and it stores shooting date. Frankly speaking, it offers more of the features I find useful than the F4s did. A brilliant camera.

Customer Service

Not needed for any repairs (no problems with any of the Nikons I've owned), but prooved excellent for a simple conversion (installing contacts in the battery well to make the MB-10's shutter button work) - fast, to the point, and cheap, too (they ask 4x less for this service than any other nikon service center in the west)

Strength:

Built like a tank, feels good and excellent performance

Weakness:

92% framing. Just think of a extra frame around the edge.

First of all, the price is in £'s I picked this up in stages. Orignally I found it as a digital SLR (Kodak DCS410) for £90, but the x2.6 crop ratio proved to much hassle. I picked up a MB-10 from Ebay and decided to go the whole hog and get a used MF-26 from B&H to complete the conversion. I could have changed the focusing screen as well, but sometimes it's nice to slip the digital back back on for testing flashguns. As a 35mm camera, I love this set up, the metering is first rate and I hope to unlock the added features of the data back once I've read the 96 page book again.

Weakness:

must buy MF-26 back to have all the bells and whistles

I bought the N90s used a few months ago. It has been a very enjoyable experience. It has almost all of the features I like-1/250 flash sync, FP high speed sync to 1/8000(but it's not TTL),rear sync with any flash, fast motordrive(2 speed), centerweighted and spot metering, matrix metering(only when a CPU lens is used), lighted LCD display in viewfinder and on top(makes shooting at night easy), 1/8000-30 sec shutter with bulb. Another thing I like is the N90 accepts the MC-30 electronic remote release. These are more user friendly than the old cable release. Some other good features that I don't have a need for are fast autofocus, autofocus lock, auto exposure lock, 7 program modes-portrait, landscape... This is one heck of a good bargain. My only complaint is to do multiple exposures, you must buy the optional MF-26 back. The back also offers many more features.

Strength:

rugged structur good weight metering program modes fast focus exposure and focus lock use of AA batteries price.. if bought used

Weakness:

NO mirror lock up only support G-lens in shutter priority mode and program mode high price of the accessories

I purchased this product through Henry's store on ebay(i had a fraud problem with my computer on ebay before so i was very cautious with this one). So far i didn't get to use it much but i'm quite satisfied with this product, i like the rugged feel, good weight, metering, and many other functions which i didn't have before because i was using F65. I especially like the fast focus this camera has and also the focus lock and exposure lock settings. Only disappointment i had with this product was i can't use all the modes with G-lens, and i need to purchase EXPENSIVE gears to be able to add more functions.. BUT it's not like i have money to buy new G-lens or gonna need those extra functions badly... so i'm quite satisfied with this product and i'm thinking of selling my F65 to buy FM2 for a back up camera. IS NIKON GOING TO CHANGE UP ALL THE LENS TO G-TYPE LENS??? well.. i'll just stick to buying used lens if they do..

Strength:

Fast and accurate AF. Metering superb. Fits my hand like a glove Uses AA batteries The heft of the camera (balances superbly with heavier zoom lenses) Never thought that a plastic camera can be that solid

Weakness:

The preset programs must have been implemented as a joke. Manual focusing not as easy as with FM2

Bought it two years ago. Was thinking of F100 that time, but don't need the extra bells and whistles. And it saved me 500 bucks.

Customer Service

Never nedded in the US, but perfect in germany
