Strength:

Stylish, easy-to-use, great image quality, sharp, no fuss, runs forever like the Energizer bunny w/o a single problem. Super-fast active AF. A true classic in design, functionality, operation.

Weakness:

Plastic case does show scratches if not careful, so please store it in a case. Otherwise, you'll have a scuffed up camera in short order.

Excellent image quality in a brain dead easy to use, super-cheap used on ebay today (<$35), point & shoot camera.

Strength:

lens quality picture quality price

I bought the Olympus Ecru, which is essentially a Stylus dressed up in a different shell. What a pleasant surprise when I got my first rolls of film back. The pictures were sharp, had nice 'pop' and was free of noise. Very high quality images. The 35mm lens I find to be the ideal focal length for all-around use. Not too short, not too wide. Perfect for people shots. Despite the fact that this camera was introduced years ago, it could easily compete with any modern point-and-shoot.

Strength:

lens quality - this little beauty was good enough to get me 49% in the "holiday" round of last years APOY competition. Exposure spot on with elitechrome. Spot metering & focussing. Size.

Weakness:

no manual override (although I''m sure I could get that for an extra 3 or 4 hundred quid) AE lock & AF lock not seperable. I''ve lent it to the wife, not sure if I''ll get it back!!

I have what I would consider a "semi serious" assortment of kit; pair of semi pro slrs with grips, "quality" lenses, filters & tripod all stuffed into a billingham 335. The little mju1 tends to be the one that gets used most though!! Utterly trustable with elitechrome. Superb results & great fun!!

Customer Service

not needed, I did a couple of small repairs myself to the interlock when I first bought it, camera now perfectly OK.

Strength:

1) Sharp, fast lens f(2.8) 2) Compact size, good overall design 3) Excellent value (Sub $100)

Weakness:

1) Autofocus takes a little practice 2) Shutter lag/Slow film advance makes action photography a challenge. 3) Could be quieter

I have used the Stylus for over five years and it is undoubtedly the best value in point and shoot cameras on the planet. It has a fast lens, compact size, good built in flash, and fairly weather resistant. I would put this camera up against almost any other, regardless of price (provides 95% of the performance of any top end P&S at 25% of the price). I personally would stick to the non-zoom Stylus cameras since the lens is much crisper. Price/performance ratio alone makes it a "5" star camera.

Strength:

Image quality, size, good exposure system.

Weakness:

If you do not want flash you have to turn it off each time the camera is on. FLash May overexpose at close distances.

I have traded this camera with my friend -she liked an APS Kodak with a zoom which I had no use for, and I had my eyes on her Olympus. Both parties remain happy. I carry this camera almost everywhere. It was around the world twice. Still works. This camera is about the lens and its size. Everything else is nothing to speak of. But it is so small and the lens is so good that I end up taking it with me more often that any of the slr''s I have. And for the money it is hard to beat. I decided that I will buy an new Contax T3 when this Olympus dies. Well, now after reading some reviews on the T3 I hope that this Olympus lives for a while. The camera requires some getting used to. The AF while accurate needs care when poining it (true of any AF camera). The exposure is always unknown so shooting in low light is more like a gamble. However I am more often than not pleased with results. Shutter lag is very prominent so shooting action is tricky but doable to a certain extent. I have had good results with fill flash and ISO 400 film. I sometimes shoot 3200 b&w film too but than the fill flash tends to overexpose if a subject is within a meter or a meter and a half of the camera - something to be aware of. Overall I am happy with this little thing. I did not expect wonders but this camera is amazingly good for its price. However, I would not mind paying a couple more hundred dollas to get a camera with features close to Contax T3 (but definitely not $700) For that kind of money I do not mind the suffering caused by a bagful of slr stuff. Even though it is not a perfect camera (as none is) I has worked hard enough to earn five stars.

Strength:

Autofocus is dead on, compact and light- easy to carry...just takes really good pictures!!!

Weakness:

Night flash...so , so...pictures at night and in the dark weren''t always so hot.

This camera is a wonder. I got the Stylus Zoom actually, [35-70] and I have gotten comments from people about my pictures all the time!! It wasn''t expensive, it does virtually everything for you to make sure your pictures come out the way you want them. It''s best used with outdoor, good lighting- careful at night, or in dim lighting, things can get tricky..read up and activate the camera''s night-flash mode if you want. I strongly recommend. In fact, it so boosted my confidence as a picture taker, that I am now buying a professional SLR camera and taking a photography course.

Strength:

Easy to use Point & shoot - pictures come out excellent without really trying

Weakness:

I was lucky enough to find a store that still had a few of these kicking around and were a good price. I picked up the Olympus Stylus without really knowing much about the product besides what I read online. I was pleasantly surprised when I received my first roll back - Not a bad picture in the bunch! I think this a great camera - very easy to use - Great Value for your money*****

Strength:

small,durable,dependable,takes great pictures

Weakness:

none when used for it's intended purposes

it takes great pictures. It's been dropped, rained on, handled by children, and otherwise abused and it's still right there when I need it. Exposure is accurate, fill flash worke extremely well, it focuses down to about a foot. If you need a camera to stuff in a pocket for grab shots or more this is the camera.

Strength:

Original Clamshell design(modern-don't forget the XA series)
Simple lens design that works very well
Neckstrap- yes, neckstrap!!!

Weakness:

a bit of gear noise- not good in the wedding chapel

I have used this camera for countless rolls, near and far focus, flash on/off and it delivers. The sharpness is very good and the lens has a very consistent quality to it. I bought it when it first came out- it sold out everywhere. The clamshell design with sculpted shape still look sexy to me and gives it a unique feel and aura about it. You can tell that artists were at work here, not just engineers. Sure, these days you can find almost any geewhiz product or digital camera, but this was the original modern compact that created a mini revolution. It is still a very capable picture taker, besting most zooms in speed and picture quality. It's replacement or sibling the Epic is not necessarily a better picture taker. The sculpted body is easy to hold and you can hold it still with both hands. I have gotten many very sharp night pictures by doing this. Sleek, simple, but with a uniform design, this camera is still in my stable of compacts. (Oh, yeah, the strap is indispensible for making the camera a part of your clothing rather than a cumbersome shove it in your pocket rockthing.)

Model Reviewed: Stylus

Strength:

The pics I took came out very very sharp with good contrast and lively colours. The autofocus was spot on as I did not have any blur pics. Although 1/2 of my roll was done indoors, I did not encounter any serious red-eye as reported. The spot meter was really useful in difficult lighting situations.

Weakness:

I wish I could set spot-meter as the default. The red-eye correction effect is really odd and does distract the target.

I started looking for a good P&S camera to complement my Nikon gear as I have missed many opportunities to take great pictures of my kids. An SLR isn't the lightest equipment to carry around. My verdict - its an excellent camera. In my opinion the pics were as good and in some cases better than those taken with my Nikon lenses. But don't be mistaken, I still love my Nikon for its flexibility and control. But the Mju II is defintely a great complement to any SLR. For S$190, every photographer should have one in his pocket, ready to take the next great shot.
