Strength:

lightweight simple viewfinder with essential informations. ergonimic handling with well placed buttons. full control possibilities. multi exposures possibility. 6.1 megapixel. (limited time promotion 1 gig IBM microdrive christmas promotion). 4 AA battery using. color balancing (almost like fuji films) Well placed smartmedia and compact flash slots.

Weakness:

plastic body (forget tough professionnal using in Afghanistan!). 4 AA battery + 2 CR123A Lithium battery + 1 CR2025 button battery (ouf !). slow autofocus (Nikon F4 body users with old autofocus lens will see no difference!). small dark viewfinder (smaller than F4 and F5 Nikon body). few lacks in Flash compatibility (SB-28)

A great camera, light and easy to handle like average 35 mm. camera. Colors are saturated (a little bit more than Nikon D1 or Coolpix 5000 on an average basis). This camera is a must for the advanced amateur, portrait shooter and occasional field amateur who wants a real 35 mm. digital camera with full range of lens possibility. (Nikon of course!)

Fast handling (and addiction too).Nikkor lens compatibility. 1 gig micro drive free gift for Chrismas in many area very appreciated. 4 AA battery welcome.Smart media, compact flash & micro drive compatibility.

Weakness:

Viewfinder (optical visor) a litle bit dark, 4 AA Battery + 2 CR123A lithium + 1 button cell CR2025 battery necessity, absence of rubber body (water repellant). limited choice of external flash units. Absence of metal body (for some persons !)

The best camera for almost everybody. light weight, simple and easy to use, it is very efficient. (Thanks to their experts who did''nt thought that camera users are airplane dash users or computer programers!). React as a real 35 mm pro camera with true saturated colors and sharpness.

Lens compatability is OK, but a draw-back. THis is a GREAT camera, and nothing more can be asked of it for the price- I recommend it to anyone... BUT, buy a wrist strap, this will REALLY help in the balancing... I just bought an SB28. I was under the inpression that everything would work nicely. WRONG! Well, the pictures do work out, but the F60 doesn''''t "talk" with the SB-28 too well. First of all, the TTL-Matrix metering simply doesn''''t work. Niether does the Auto- fill flash. Those things are OK, but here''''''''s the real kicker: THE APERATURE, FILM SENSITIVITY, and THE ZOOM(focal length) aren''''t even read through! However, this flash actually does OK. This camera is an amazing camera- I would recommend it to anyone who has any interest in digital photography. It is a great place to start.

Strength:

Simple to use for beginners, but enough manual controls to give any one total control. Would recommend to any one who wants a digital SLR.

Weakness:

Extreme whites can cause problems, like with most digital cameras.

Great camera! With todays printers, WOW, what possibilities.

Strength:

Worked great with Nikkor, Tamron, and Sigma lenses; tele-converter. Half the weight of the D1 and D1X, about the same weight as the DSC770. AA batteries a big plus for me as I am not usually near A/C power when I am shooting. Just about every store (and nearby friend) carries Alkaline AA. Get about 250 shots with about 60 "preview" checks per set of (AA) batteries (1200mAh Ni-MH), compared to 175 with the F550 lithium battery on the DSC770. Great results with Epson photo 750 printer and matte paper.

Weakness:

Cheap plastic body (definitely don''t drop this one), but half the weight of the D1, which shouldn''t be dropped either but is at least drizzle-proof. Disappointed that it did not work with Sunpak 4000 TTL flash or Vivitar 285HV, which work fine with my N70. I guess I have to bite the cost of the SB-28DX. The kludgy "night light" assist focus system (used to assist focus system under low-light situations) is definitely a remnant of the N60 that should have been removed.

The S1 is much better than most digital cameras I have used, and certainly for the price, a winner for intermediate to advanced photographers looking for an entry-point into the digital world. Sharp, accurate color reproduction even with studio lights (used a Nikon SB-15 adaptor with mono-lights). The Sony DSC770 color came out muddy and flat unless enhanced with Photoshop, while the S1 images came out print ready. Fairly fast focus, but quick enough for the "Blue Angels" unless you use a high-speed AF lens. Shot mostly in "Fine" mode so the 1GB drive held about 440 images. Dual media slots a big plus. When I filled the microdrive, the camera rolled over to the 32Mb Smartmedia I had in the second slot. Neat!

Strength:

Color, sharpness, easy to use, vertually no lag time.

Weakness:

The built in flash is my only complaint. I have ordered the SB-28 Nikon which is supposed to work well with the S1.

WOW, I almost passed this one up because I did not have any Nikkor lenses. I have been a Canon user with a 1V an EOS 3 and several other bodies. I have mostly L series lenses so I thought long and hard before purchasing this S1. The Photo Center salesmen were raving about the color and the sharpness of the Fuji. So I bought it, a 24-50 D and an 80-200 f2.8 lens. I have been so impressed with the quality of my photos I feel like a traitor against Canon. This is one sharp combination with the 80-200 f2.8. The 80-200 turns into a 120-300 at f2.8!!!! I would highly recommend it to anyone!!!

Strength:

Size, image quality, reasonable fast. Imagefiles are 17 megabytes non-compressed. Good menue-system, easy to understand.

Weakness:

No PC-flash sync for studio lightning, no shutter button for portrait-format, built on a Nikon F60. Should at least be a F 80. Three(!) different types of batteries.

Not a D1, but image quality is good, and it´s pretty userfriendly. But it feels strange to pay $3000 on a digital system based on an amature camera...When prices goes down, I´m buying one. Good camera for newspapers if you don´t shoot sport.

Strength:

Awesome image quality, fast, Nikon lens mount (great savings if you already have a supply of Nikkor lenses), full control or fully automatic, very comfortable and user friendly, can use all storage media including microdrive (again, a great savings if you have a previous supply).

Weakness:

None, that I can see.

I waiting anxiously for this camera to move up to the semi-professional level of digital equipment and I've not been disappointed. The image quality and color accuracy are excellent. The S1 menu system is very easy to understand and the entire camera is extremely user friendly. Over the years I've collected all the storage media - CF, SM and 340 microdrive. The camera supports all three. I'm using the following lenses with great results: Nikkor 28-105 2.8, Nikkor 80-200 2.8. For the advanced amateur ready to move up, this is a wonderful camera. Very satisfying to have a digital SLR.

Strength:

Interchangeable lenses, Nikon mount a plus. Full control of all parameters if wanted, auto mode if lazy. No pixelization visible at 13X19" prints on Epson 1270 printer. Can use 340 MB, 1 gig microdrive, compactflash or smartmedia.

Weakness:

none perceived yet after 1 week use.

The camera seems to be everything promised after 1 weeks use, awesome quality. Long shots taken with AF Nikkor 80-200 f2.8 + cambron n/nfs 2x mc7 teleconverter are clear- (effective 600mm at 200mm) Nikon SB 25 speedlight also works well with TTL on this camera. I have also used the Tokina 20-35 f3.5-4.5 zoom and Nikkor f1.4 50mm prime with excellent results. Good choice for advanced amateur. Might be a good backup for a pro. Better yet if you already have Nikon mount lenses.
