Review 1 of 14

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:

What I like about it is all in one so I don't need to carry extra spot meter and so on. I used it for a 2 month Film project in Eastern Europe. The electronic died on me, not sure why. Perhaps "rain" and cold.

Strengths:

All in One.

Weaknesses:

Finding an authorize agent to fix the problem. White rubber trim faded in about 6 months. Not sure about all weather condition. Problem with electronic.

Sekonic Dual Master L-558 for cinematographer

Review 2 of 14

Price Paid:  $625.00 from Adorama

Summary:

This meter is right on the money, once you become familar with the unit it works well . If you use it you get good results. It is pricey and there are prob cheaper brands out there, but if you can afford it , i do not think you will be disappointed.
The readings are accurate.

Strengths:

Weatherproof, accurate, good construction and batteries last.

Weaknesses:

The supplied manuel is a little vague , and as mentioned in other reveiws , the battery door feels flimsy and the case is a little tight.

Similar Products Used:

none first meter.

Customer Service:

not needed so far.

Review 3 of 14

Price Paid:  $409.00

Summary:

Good, useful, reliable meter for the money. The feature set compares well with the Sekonic 608 but it's priced like a 508, and is more accurate than either (Sekonic's underexpose). I have access to all three but I always go back to the Starlite for it's more intuitive interface and superior accuracy.

Strengths:

Consistently accurate. Easy to use. Nice feature set for large formats. Auto power-off. Long battery life.

Weaknesses:

Quality control - the first one I got was a real dud. Weak battery door. Grey grip absorbs grime (but can be easily cleaned). The first one I bought was a dud, had to return it. Thumbwheel misses steps, but this seems to improve with age. Low light sensitivity (compared to dedicated spotmeters).

Similar Products Used:

Sekonic 508 Sekonic 608 Minolta Spotmeter VF (which I still use quite often).

Customer Service:

Excellent - Bogen replaced the dud with a brand new unit.

Review 4 of 14

Price Paid:  $440.00 from Canoga Camera

Summary:

Nice grippy construction. I've not noted any of the construction weaknesses others reviewing here have mentioned. The cap on the spot meter end is tight and goes on with a reassuring snap. The battery door is very snug and secure from moisture as well. The meter seems dead on for accurate reading in difficult exposure compositions. Nice easily understood control set

Strengths:

Very accurate and consistent readings Tight and grippy construction. A huge feature set guaranteed to please Nice large readout easy to read in bright sunlight as well as dim light

Weaknesses:

Wish it read out in 1/3 stop increments, but no problem to set up regardless

Sekonic 508

Review 5 of 14

Price Paid:  $450.00 from online shop

Summary:

I bought this meter because of the excellent reviews it got on this site. I wanted a precise meter for my Hasselblad / Rolleiflex and even EOS system and this meter gave all that I wanted. I feel fully confident with this meter at my side. The spotmetering and flash metering are also very accurate and reliable. This meter is one of my best photographic buys.

Strengths:

Accuracy !! Spotmetering plus all the goodies.

Weaknesses:

NONE
