Konica Minolta Color Centuria 100

MSRP: $

Description: Recognized as the choice for outdoor photographers who need a premium general purpose film, Konica Color Centuria 100 offers super-bright color reproduction and razor sharp images. The well-rounded performance characteristics are the result of new emulsion technologies, which provide a wide exposure latitude, especially for underdeveloped shots, and very stable color reproduction from underexposure through overexposure.

Review 1 of 5

Price Paid:  $5.00 from WalMart

Summary:
I had two rolls processed about two weeks apart this month. First roll was grainier than latter. Color on both was very good. I used more exposures on a tripod with second roll, which came out very sharp. The color pallet of this film is similar to Kodak Echtachrome slide film. The bluish tone is no too prevalent making outdoor photo''s true to memory. Reds and blues are exacting, as well as gray and browns. Exposure latitude is more acceptable in the underexposed value. Skin tones are somewhat "creamy" but if people portrait''s is your thing you can''t go wrong. Use a tripod and you will see a big difference in exposure/sharpness. Overcast days are the best! If exposures are not true, take it back to lab for reprocessing. They made a mistake.

Strengths:
True Outdoor film if used in overcast ambient light. Not a "saturated" film. But true to color memory.

Weaknesses:
Don''t recommended for use with outdoor flash. Unless used with warming filter.

Similar Products Used:
All - Fuji, Konica, Kodak, Agfa, Ilford Polaroid, etc.

Review 2 of 5

Summary:
It's cheap - and if you are using just for picture taking - this may fit in your budget and taste! But Overall, FUJI and Kodak rules.

Strengths:
Well ... not sure in there is any! I had bought about 10 rolls the store have for discount - the expiration was good .. but the picture didnot appeal me as I hoped so. I have been using FUJI and KODAK film over the years and gave it a try with other brand - and KONICA was my other option. It lacks the brightness compare to FUJI and lacks the warmthness as KODAK. I am not serious photographer - but to this point - I would not ever use Konica film (that's personal)

Weaknesses:
Color saturation is lacking - compare to FUJI - there is no depth of color - the green came out light bluish green. And skin tone was mild comparing to KODAK - white skin came out blue pal-yellow at daylight. My favorite is still FUJI SUPER HQ-100 in this price range.

Similar Products Used:
FUJI SUPER HQ-100, KODAK GOLD (not Royal GOld) 100, KODAK Max.

Review 4 of 5

Summary:
It came as a free roll, it was not outdated. I can see why they gave it away. Sorry, Konica, but I was impressed, not positively.

Strengths:
can't find any but I guess it's cheap

Weaknesses:
not really good for people, blocks highlights a bit, seems sensitive to color temp of light

Similar Products Used:
ektar 25 (I want it back), RG100, supra 100 (the current winner), fujichromes, etc, in the 100 and lower catagory

Review 5 of 5

Summary:
Good to shoot people outdoors, especially Asian since the skin tone will come out less yellowish. Grainy when compare with Kodak and Fuji 100.

If you take people outdoors, do try this one if you want lively colours while can't get a PJA at a instant or you subject's face is not in good condition. I can say that this is marginally better to Kodak ProImage 100 because the result is eaiser to be estimated.

The most important technique on this film is not to over/under-expose this film too much or you are at high risk of lossing much details.

Strengths:
- Cheap price
- Can get it everywhere
- Exceptionally good skin tone outdoors
- True colour reproduction

Weaknesses:
- Grain is not as fine as Kodak & Fuji
- Looks pale when shooting white people but perfect for Asian subject
- Low exposure lattitude

Similar Products Used:
Kodak and Fuji consumer 100 films,
Kodak Royal Gold and Fuji Relar 100 (Extremely good for enlargements)
Kodak Ektapress professional 100 (PJA)
Kodak Pro Image 100 (I prefer Konica to this)
