Strength:
Not expensive. Plastic but sturdy. Fairly fast. Smooth focusing. Light weight.
Weakness:
Not as good as the Nikkor 28mm lens. I bought this lens last year just to get something in the 28mm range. I just used it for a couple of indoor snap shots and then forgot about it. Recently I shot a roll of film outdoors with this lens...what a surprise...very sharp pictures, great color rendition and pretty good contrast. I did get a little bit of flare on one shot but overall this lens performs very well for the price. Customer Service Not required. Strength:
nothing very remarkble but better build than the new made in china AF stuff you see nowadays.
Weakness:
Built (compared to nikkors) Coating on the E series a little loose Many many years ago i used this lens much as i didnt had any money at all, this is a reasonable lens and i find it ok value for money.I also tried the E35 mm 2,5 which according to my experience is slightly better, but i yiu need a manual type go for the 28 mm 2,8..which is outstanding! if youre a beginner or on a budget try this E type, which is often overseen and misregarded unfortunately. Happy newyear !go and make photos!its not always the gear its You who create the pic! Customer Service none Similar Products Used: much for both canon nikon and other brands |

Strength:
•Close Focusing to 1 foot • f/2.8 •Sharp images •Build quality
Weakness:
Can't use it on my new Nikon (which has an AF metering ring) My dad, who was John Denver's photographer, had this lens with his old Nikon F2. I shot most of my photos through this lens before I got my own Nikon in 2001. This was a great all-around lens. Similar Products Used: 28mm f/3.5 (same generation) |

Strength:
Worth every penny. Does what it is supposed to do very nicely.
Weakness:
None. This was my first wide angle lens about 20 yrs. ago. I have since bought a second one for doing stereo with. They always perform well. I generally love my 20/2.8 AIS for wide work with one camera. Customer Service Never needed. Similar Products Used: 20/2.8 AIS |

Strength:
Good entry level Nikon lens introduced in 1979 for Nikons "Department Store" line (which wasn't terribly successful) such as the EM and EL. It brought Nikon within the reach of the general public.
Weakness:
Lower physical quality than AI series at the time. A great lower line lens for a student or beginner, but nothing to stick with! I'm personally surprised they lasted as long in production as they did! Customer Service Never needed! Similar Products Used: All Nikkor AI & AIS lenses. |

Strength:
Great wide angle lens, good for landscapes & architecture. Single focal length gives sharp results. No longer maufactured but many are avail on used market.
Weakness:
F2.8 isn't the fastest but it's definately not slow. A faster lens would cost much much more. A great, inexpensive (for Nikon) wide angle lens. Customer Service Never had to use it Similar Products Used: Nikon 50mm AIS, 100mm AIS |

Inexpensive
Weakness:
Betrays its inexpensiveness I owned the E series 28/2.8, and disliked it. I sold it in 1982 in favor of the 28/2.8 Nikkor, that features CRC, which is just about the sharpest wide angle lens available. What's the problem with the E lenses? Aside from perhaps the tele-zoom that was made, the lens coatings was the place Nikkor saved major $$$, to the detriment of image quality. I could live with the plastic construction; the low contrast was just too much to deal with. I suppose if you were on a steady diet of E lenses, this would not really be noticable, but if you had any Nikkors, and you were used to Nikkor snap, the E series was bound to be a let down, with the possible exception of someone who owned a 43-86 Nikkor zoom, which was generally a dog of a lens.
