Strength:

Very sharp, even wideopen.
Fast autofocus, with or without the matched teleconverters when used with the F5. Ability to overide autofocus and lock focus buttons on the lense (as with other AFS lenses).

Weakness:

Big, Heavy, Expensive.

Outstanding lense for wildlife photography. Requires quality tripod and wimbley head. Rented the lense a year ago, bought one 2 months ago. Shot 60 rolls of birds, many with the TE-14 (840mm/F5.6). Very sharp edge to edge. The "trunk" case JUST fits as carry on luggage. Wish it were smaller & lighter (who doesn't) as it does get heavy by the end of the day.

Strength:

Extremely fast focusing and tack sharp. The ultimate wildlife lens. Use the TC14E for an unbeatable 840 f/5.6 and with the TC20E you have a very usable (and incredible) 1200 f/8! With an F-5 or F-100 mounted on a Gitzo 1348 and a Wemberly head, you have a world-class setup. A cheetah chasing down a Tompson's gazelle is no problem to capture with the 600 AFS.

Weakness:

No problem, but the size of the lens with the two hoods makes it tough to transport. It's a little too big for the Domke Scope Pack and I haven't found anything else to haul it around in that is a nice as the Domke.

If you have the desire and the bucks, GET THIS LENS!
