Strength:

Optical performance Quick AF with MZ-s even in dark conditions Price when used Light

Weakness:

Build quality (no, it is not falling apart!)

This is another review I post here. I do it in my busy schedule, therefore, often times I don't even check my spelling, grammar, etc. I see many mistakes in my summaries, however, I hope that the readers will concentrate on the message, and not on the language alone. I use this lens when I go hiking (often over 13000 feet high mountains), and it serves me very well. The images are crisp on my Velvia and Sensia 100 slides. I do not see a difference in the quality of my slides whether they come from using my Canon 28-70 L lens, or Tokina Pro 80-200. As the prevoius reviewer mentioned, optically it is a great lens, but lacks in build quality. Sometimes, I used this lens for portraits, and they were wonderful. I got enlargements 16x24 from Slideprinter in Denver that were fantastic. And i know what fantastic is - I use 6X7 Medium Format for top quality. If you are on a badget, and do not mind a weak construction, but want a top optical performance, buy a used one. They are so cheap now, that it amazes me. If you are a snob, and need an expensive lens (like my Canon L lenses) thinking that it would help you a lot, then go ahead. You ego will get a lift, but not so with the performance. This is the only consumer lens I own, and I recommend it. I give 5 stars for optical performance and 3 stars for build quality.

Strength:

Superb optical quality for the price. Even at Maximum focal lengths!!!
I love the power zoom function!

Weakness:

Only mediocre build quality seems like it would go "Tit's Up" if you dropped it from more than 12". The zoom ring is a little sloppy in manual zoom.

I was astounded at the optical quality of this lens for the price I paid. I took some shots at my local zoo and at full zoom the detail was just incredible. I couldn't be more happy with it and the Fuji Superia 200 speed film I was using. The build quality is mediocre but who doesn't take care of there photography investment anyways. Just be careful with it and don't drop it. I recommend this lens wholeheartedly.
