The best camera I've owned in 20 years. Very impressive, Small enough to fit in a pocket or purse and EXCELLENT quality. I've had a 12 X 18 print and it is better than any 35 I've taken.

    Strength:

Excellant picture and color plus ease of operation(once you understand the manual).

    Weakness:

Doesn't come with rechargable batteries. The manual is very poor and hard to understand. They should hire someone who knows how to write a manual. I am lucky I have other Olympus cameras and are familiar with their style menus.

I have had the camera for 3 months and it takes excellant pictures ....really sharp with excellant color. The batterys will last for approximately 50 pictures if you use the LCD display for framing. The picture is actually larger than what you see in the optical view finder. I wish that they would have put a button on for the timer though. You have to program one of the other buttons to do this. For the price of the camera they should include a bigger Smartmedia card than the 16 MB they give you. I would suggest you invest in a 64 MB right from the start. I can highly recommend this camera for the serious photographer. Take a look at my web site and tell me if I am the type of person that tampers with the lens on an expensive camera. http://www.2lbgil.com If you want to see a picture of the lens go here http://www.2lbgil.com/C-4040z.html or http://www.2lbgil.com/C-4040z.jpg Excellant camera...Don't get me wrong just forget about any warranty/service...it's been 3 weeks tomorrow since I sent it in.

    Customer Service

Only one thing..OLYMPUS does not stand behind their warranty. The coating started to come off of the lens so I sent it in for warranty. They refused to honor the warranty because they claimed I tamper

    Strength:

Fast lens(f1.8). Well built. Easy to connect to the computer with USB port.

    Weakness:

Slow power up time. No rechargeable battery included. 16mb card that is included with the package is too small.

This is my 3rd digital camera and I feel that this is the best one so far. My previous cameras were the Canon S10 and Nikon 990. The Canon was compact but I felt that the pictures were washed-out whenever I had them printed at Ofoto.com. The Nikon was better but it was bulky and I had problems with the internal memory erasing itself each time I reloaded batteries. This Olympus is the first 4 megapixel camera and the results are the closest to film I have seen. The build quality is excellent and the controls are fairly intuitive. My main complaint is the slow start-up time when the camera is first turned on. The lens takes its time to extend before you can start taking pictures. This means that you can''''''''t flip a switch and take a shot quickly like you can with regular SLRs. Buy some rechargeable AA batteries to use with this camera to save money in the long run.

    Strength:

Easily portable, fast in auto mode, ability to capture images in tiff format as well as various jpg compressions. A real good travelling camera that captures excellent images, provided the subject matter is not too contrasty. Use of 4AA size batteries rather than proprietary size. Good focusing ability in both regular and low light situations.

    Weakness:

Unattached lens cap that is a nuisance as well as a healthy appetite for batteries. The biggest problem I have with this this camera is the amount of CA produced by the lens in images with high contrast eg. snowbanks beside a creek, girders against a sky, chrome highlights on a motorcycle. Overly dependant on menues to exercise any degree of control over camera, resulting in a lack of speed in other than auto mode. Hunting for the right aperture for DoF or shutter speed to capture motion takes too long. Flash location close to lens results in a great deal of red-eye, but this is common to most in camera flashes.

A great P&S camera for the person who doesn''t want to be bothered exercising a lot of control over the system. For those who do, they are forced to use menues rather than external buttons for quick changes. As well, I find the menues could be more logical. Overall, a good camera for anyone who requires portability at the expense of speed or overall control.

    Strength:

Absolutely amazing clarity of focus. 4.2 megs makes your camera stand out and look more like film than any other camera I''ve owned.

    Weakness:

Batteries are expensive. It takes two 3V batteries that cost $15 each ($30 a pop). I am not sure how long they last, but they''d better last a LONG time.. The menu a bit annoying. I haven''t yet gotten used to it. I don''t know how to explain it but I don''t like the layout.. I''m sure it''ll pass as I get used to it. The price of the camera is not bad. Although when you combine the price of the batteries---its not for someone on a budget. I also didn''t like the extremely small sized memory card. I''d rather pay $100 more and get a 128 meg card included with the camera than the silly 8 meg (or was it 16 meg) they give---which is impracticle for such a large resolution camera. Also, an automatic lense cap would be nicer than the snap-on which I''ve yet to get it strapped to the camera.

This camera is great...its my 3rd digital camera and probably my last for a while. The jump from 2.1 meg of my last camera to the 4.1 camera was amazing. My photos now are crisper, more detail and totally in focus now. The camera does outstanding in bright, outdoor lighting as well as inside and in the dark of night. I''ve taken 3 dozen photos (or more) so far and haven''t really noticed anything but great photos. Great camera for the price! My only ''substantial'' complaint is the batteries. This is something I''m surprised no ones talked about in previous reviews. The camera takes two batteries that cost $15 a piece (a total of $30). That''s a huge drawback...but other than that, its a great camera.

    Strength:

Superb, contrasty and sharp lens. This lens is WAY fast. Olympus know its glass...just read reviews here of any OM1/3/4 or OM system Zuiko lenses. Superb quality images, even at lower resolutions (see the 1024X768 JPEG SQ2 images I have uploaded). Excellent color balance, contrast. Incredible level of photographic control. Improved menu system over the C3000 and C3030, C3040Z cameras (same as the new C3020Z). Bright, sharp LCD. Excellent build quality, with a nice aluminum body. Camera has the solid feel and heft that a Leica rangefinder has. This thing feels like a professional piece of equipment, not a plasticy point and shoot. It feels much better made than the Nikon 775/885. Notably better than the C3000Z I have played with. Olympus listened to its customers for the C3030 and has added a camera strap and lens cap strap as part of its bundle. USB autoconnect system works great and its a piece of cake to download images from the camera to your computer. Comes with an good manual (which users should read to be able to make use of all the features of the camera) a Camedia Master Software CD, Adobe Photoshop LE. Also comes with a cable that lets users view images on the TV. t

    Weakness:

    1) Lens makes a disconcerting noise if the camera is started with the lens cap on. This is the issue cited time and again in the C3030Z reviews. ?xD;?xA;2) The LCD display protrudes from the camera and it looks like it will be easily scratched. I am going to try cutting to fit a clear (not matte finish) WriteRight PDA screen cover for color Palm Pilots on it to see if I can still see the LCD clearly but protect it at the same time. ?xD;?xA;3) Viewfinder is at the left end of the camera. I would prefer a center positioned viewfinder like on my Yashica T4 or on the Canon G1/G2. ?xD;?xA;4) Camera has kind of a bulky shape than can make it difficult to fit into camera bags better suited to a 35 mm style point and shoot. This is not a camera that will slip into a shirt pocket. s

Excellent camera that creates absolutely beautiful images. This is my first digital camera. I have owened and used Olympus OM-1s for over 20 years and have always been impressed with their build quality, ruggedness, reliability, and absolutely superb lenses. It provides an almost unbelievable degree of photographic control: aperture, shutter or auto exposure control, auto or manual focus, white balance control, flash control (+/- 2.0), contrast and sharpness control, ISO control, slow flash, auto bracketing, etc. Superb, crisp, contrasty and FAST f1:1.8 lens that is the fastest available. Camera provides the users with an almost bewildering array of resolutions for photos. Menu system has been revised and is simple and intuitive to use. Photos show great sharpness, color, contrast, color contrast. ?xD;?xA;?xD;?xA;Lens cap needs to be removed prior to turning on camera or camera makes disconcerting grinding noises as it goes into an error mode. Looks like the LCD display will scratch easily as it protrudes from the camera body. ?xD;?xA;?xD;?xA;This camera is a serious piece of kit. I love this camera and would strongly recommend it or the C3020Z model for users interested in the 3.3 megapixel range. I would like to see how it stacks up against the Canon G2.t

    Strength:

1.8 Lens. Fast for digital. I find the controls easy to use once you get into them. Excellent hand grip on right side of body as I have large hands and there is no problem for me unlike using Fuji cameras with very limited hand holding grips except for 6900. Large memory buffer for action shots, in low res mode can take shot after shot, literally tens on tens of them, just never seems to end. Battery life seems good to me after using many Fuji cameras.

    Weakness:

Poor focusing in dark light, less than 50% accurate here when taking party shots with little light, extremely annoying with such a good camera. Hunts and hunts and the pictures are hardly ever in focus. The noise the lens makes when turned on, thought my camera was faulty as not used to the grinding noise it makes. Wrote to Olympus and they say it is normal for it to make some noise but if it is excessive I must send it in for repair. Lens cap can be annoying as if left on lens hits it and causes camera to go into a error mode, should be a form of protection against this. Read reviews of previous 3030 camera and this was on of the most complained about problems, surprised Olympus did nothing about it at all with such good camera. Video mode in High quality is restricted to 32 seconds, this is no good as I use a 128mb card, but if you want video go buy a DV recorder. Would like to see more updated accesories out there for this new camera not the old stuff that was availible for the older cameras. Slow Zoom speed, slow compared to other cameras used.

Great Camera with excellent picture quality. Best I have used so far from over 6 Digital Cameras. Get pictures processed in a photo lab and quality blows you away. Show my friends and they cannot tell the difference between 35mm and diital. Only thing I noticed is printed pictures on photo paper seem very smooth, something I quite like, maybe others won''t. Excellent quality lens but suffers in dark light and can never seem to focus once you zoom in a little bit. Wide open lens helps this but still annoying. Overall a excellent little camera that will please me for a long time to come as I am through buying new cameras as they just get better and better and don''t feel I will need more than this one.
