Tamrac 5747 Velocity 7 Backpacks

Tamrac 5747 Velocity 7 Backpacks

DESCRIPTION

Though it doesn''t look like a camera bag, this unique, ultra-functional pack carries like a backpack, but by swinging it around to the front provides quick access to most 35mm SLRs (up to 4 3/4" tall) with a 6" long zoom lens attached, additional lenses and a flash. The modern sling design comfortably distributes the weight of photo equipment, but the real advantage is that, unlike a traditional photo backpack, it need not be removed to quickly access photo equipment.

Strength:

can be secured enough not to bounce while running and still be able to access case quickly

Weakness:

needs more padding on sling and main compartment is only secured with one quick release - smll items may be able to fall out if you are very active

I needed a bag to go on hikes/runs and this bag works great for that. It is big enough for one body, a couple of lens and a few extras.

Strength:

Excellent Construction. Comfortable on the back with the sling design.

Weakness:

Size. Price. Internal flap design is a bit awkward. I would imagine one you have your lenses organized, maybe it's easier.

Make sure you bring your camera with you if you are checking this bag out. My 10D doesn't fit very well. Seems like too snug of a fit. If you want to swap lenses you probably have a recipe for disaster being it's all very tight, and there is no real working room. Well constructed bag from a well known name. Only get the Velocity 7 if you don't want to carry more than the camera with 1 or 2 short lenses. I expected a much more of a bag such as this at this price tag. It seems I overpaid a little as well.

Compared with the Velocity 9, you get a lot more bag for the money with the Velocity 9.

Strength:

The bag is very versitle. I can be worn as a backpack or shoulder bag. It is easily slung to the front and provides easy acces to your equipment. It doesn't look like a camera bag which is a big plus as this may deter a potential thief. It is also very light weight. It will also accomdate two extra lens cases or accessory cases to hold extra gear. again, a great choice for today's compact gear.

Weakness:

The bag's only real weakness may be its size. Tamrac remedies this by offering the Velocity 9. While it'll work great with today's smaller & lighter lenses and cameras, it may not with equipment that not so smaller or lighter. It'll hold what I put into it, but barely. A rebel 2000 may be a compact camera, but it's almost the size of the Elan 7 with a battery pack (aka grip extender) attached to it. I use a Tamron 19-35 and the Sigma 24-135. Both of these lenses are 77mm lenses without the hoods attached. Of course, I insist it also carry my Canon flash with my Stofen Omni-Bouncer. Oh, it all goes in, but just barely and certainly not the way I want it to. But then again, this isn't Tamrac's fault. The Velocity 9 should remedy this. This shouldn't be a pproblem if you're using today's more compact equipment. Again, if you're using battery packs, grip extenders and 72 or 77mm zooms, opt for the Velocity 9.

The Velocity 7 is a good choice for just about any active photographer. This is the bag you want to carry your stuff when you are out and about. I bought this bag looking for something to carry ( and give me easy access to) the stuff I use all the time (or at least frequently). This bag fills the bill. A great choice for today's compact gear. If you're using battery packs, grip extenders, and 72 or 77mm zooms, opt for the Velocity 9.

Strength:

The bag is extremely well build, the build quality is far superior to my previous LowePro Orian Trekker

Weakness:

Too small, even the Velocity 9 isn't quite big enough.

The price I paid was $45 NZD. I purchased this bag to replace a LowePro Orion Trekker, big mistake and I've regretted it ever since. It's just poorly designed, hard to use and too small for a SLR with a couple of lens and a flash. I use a EOS 33, 550EX, 17-40 F4.0 and 70-200 F4.0 I can't fit it all in. I've just purchased a Crumpler Schrinkle which is the bomb, way better than any other bag I've ever scene, LowePro included. Check out www.crumpler.com.au

Strength:

versatility style material used ergonomic

Weakness:

not enough room annoying foam arrangement price.. then again almost everything is too expensive for student like myself..

I just bought this bag today!! so far i'm happy with the desin, doesn't look like a camera bag so i can walk around for street photography and looks casual so good for me.. i'm still young so i wanted something versatile, and good design. HOWEVER, my Nikon F90x fits tightly, with my 75-300 G-type lens. Not much room for antyhing really.. good for one camera body with lens and maybe two lenses and some pockets for filters and films. It was annoying to set up the foam-wall thing inside.. I think it's bit over-priced for the value.. (i bought it in canadian dollar)but very versatile and stlyish, i can carry pretty much all the basic kits i need. good bag!!!

Strength:

Compact, comfortable, very good for active photography or bicycling/motorcycling.

Weakness:

Not a lot of room. (Can fit a pro-sized camera, but it's a tight squeeze.)

This is a great bag if you 1) don't need to carry more than a single camera body and a couple extra lenses with few accessories and 2) need to be really active while taking photos and/or getting to the site. I bicycle around a lot with my camera, and this bag is great for that. The sling design is good when active, but can be somewhat awkward for changing lenses or getting the camera in and out of the bag, especially if you are carrying a pro-size camera, or a camera with a battery pack attached. Also quite comfortable for extended wear and dayhiking. Doesn't provide much space for anything other than a basic photography kit. When I am just walking around, I find the Tamrac 5605 (Pro 5) provides better ease of use and easier access to the carried equipment when changing lenses, switching film, etc.

Strength:

Carries enough gear for semi-serious travel photography. Sling design is great for quick access. MAS pockets can be added for additional storage.

Weakness:

Won't carry a whole ton of gear, but I don't think that's the intent.

This is a great bag for traveling. I recently took mine on a trip and it worked very well. My Canon Elan 7e, 28-135 IS lens, 75-300 IS lens, and 420EX flash all fit inside - but just barely. The bag also accomodates two of Tamrac's MAS accessory pockets; I use two of the 5382 pockets to carry film and other small things. There are two front pockets but I like to carry more film than they will hold (six rolls of 35mm will fit in a 5382). The sling design is great. The bag can be swung around quickly for access to a lens, flash, film, etc. It also allows the bag to be worn while seated, with the bag in the forward position. In this manner the contents can be accessed without having to get out of the seat.

Customer Service

No need to use so far.

None similar to this. I use a Tamrac 608 as my "carry-all" bag.
