I have ordered the Tamrac 5274 based on a catalogue and on viewing the external/internal dimensions, but all proved to be entirely misleading. It took me 3 hours and a lot of damage to my fingers (due to very harsh velcro material) to rearrange the inside partitions. What I tried to accommodate was less than the advertised capacity: Nikon D100 body, Nikon 80-200/f2.8 AF, Nikon AF 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5D + various small accessories (two lens hoods, two 77 mm filters, battery charger, cleaning kit, etc). Longest internal size is given as 30cm which is exactly the length of the camera body with the 80-200 lens (+hood) attached. It will however NOT FIT inside the bag unless you shove it to the limit of damaging your camera. The extremely rugged velcro burs scratched the LCD cover. If you pack the camera with the smaller lens attached, you will hardly find a place inside the bag where to accommodate the big lens. Lens hoods have to be taken off each time you put any lens inside. In short, way too often, I had to take everything out the bag and rearrange before packing and moving along. The inside is so tight that you cannot have a good grip on the camera to take it out. My procedure was to pull the camera straps while holding the bag still.
The construction seems solid, but at the end of day, I found that it is way too solid for how little I can put inside. Internal pads are too rigid and the protection they provide is exaggerated. They also eat a lot of space from the inside and they are not supple enough to allow comfortable placement of objects. Zippers were not as smooth as I expected.
External tripod straps are ridiculous. They can only take something like a tabletop tripod, but nothing to hold ANY 80-200 zoom (for which I bought the bag in the first place).
The bag may be suitable for smaller equipment, but definitely NOT for what Tamrac advertised. I gave it back. Strengths:
Solid construction, yet somewhat exaggerated for the volume you can actually carry. Fancy looking. Small enough for carrying in crowds, museums etc. Not a "quick action" bag. Weaknesses:
Rugged internal velcro material scratches camera and parts. Partitions not supple enough. Bag holds much less than advertised. Price. Similar Products Used:
