Strength:

It is near bullet proof, lots of space, handy. Just plain tuff

Weakness:

If I could change one thing I would put bigger wheels - when you are traveling in a rough uneven areas the wheels just are not big enough in diameter to give it clearance so you have to drag it .

Also another recommendation - I have the lid insert which is ok but difficult to organize things for quick access. I have replaced this with 3M (3M has the best adhesive) hook and loop (velcro) in the lid. I have (densely)covered the inside lid with strips of the loop horizontally then all my accessories I have stuck strips of the hook. Accessories such as camera chargers, filters, memory cards (transparent case), extra batteries(canon batteries have nice plastic protectors so you can stick the hook to that), camera cords, remote shutter - the rest is your imagination. The main point is it is very organized and visible everything has a home for quick access no unzipping and digging and looking inside pockets. Plus actually you can store more. It is very rugged this way I never have anything lose in my case when it is open and like I said in the summary the case gets abused.

I have the pelican 1510 and it is the best investment for your camera gear that could be recommended. I travel around the world with my gear in this case, and it has taken a beating. My last trip to Hunan China my gear was stored under the department of the bus - we traveled 5 hours in torrential rain. When I arrived at my destination and the door was opened under the cargo area of the bus everything was swimming in mud and water. My case looked as if it had been towed with a rope behind the bus. But inside everything was perfect. This is just one example. I just don't worry when my gear is in this case. It is cheap insurance and the 1510 is so convenient and portable. Also it is incredible what you can store in this case.

Strength:

Every Pelican case is crush, water, corrosion, dust, and shock resistant to falls. All of my cases have stood up to their tasks time and time again. From falling into a wet shoreline to going to a dusty camp site, the case has done its job.

Weakness:

Every once in a while they would become slightly discolored and I haven't figured out why. No other complaints.

I have several Pelican cases and they all are essential to me. I go out on a lake and shot some of my photos and if it wasn't for these cases I would be out of a few cameras. I have the small Pelican 1200 for the smaller camera and the 1500 for all of its lens and gear. I also have the 1560 and 1600 cases for all the additional parts and simply storage between me and the wife and kids. We all just started to get into photography when we moved into the country and when we broke our first digital camera it was easy to see that we need to protect our cameras. Since all these cases are dust, water, corrosion, and crust proof we had to get several to make sure all of our gear was safe. I wouldn't go anywhere with out my Pelican cases if I am using my camera. If you are a photographer you should have a Pelican case.

Customer Service

When I called Ralph's Pelican Cases they were extremely helpful and nice to me. Never had a problem when I would call to checkup on my orders.

I have used the Pelican 1200, 1500, 1560, and 1600 for my camera gear. Also used their micro cases for my phone, cards, licenses, etc. And I have used a Doskocil case but I didn't like it because it seemed heavier than my Pelicans.

Strength:

custamizable foam, strong shell, sturdy latches, waterproof. And I love the pressure equalization valve.

Weakness:

unless you pull out the o-ring seal, theyre shouldnt be any. this thing is d**n near nuke proof!

I own a couple of pelican cases; 1300, 1450, and the 1500. I trust all my camera equipment to pelican cases, they have alway protected my gear. Ive dropped one of the side of a mountain, in a river, and recently left one on the top of my car and didnt realize it until i slammed on the brakes at 50mph, and after all of this my camera gear is still in perfect working condition. And everyone i know who uses them has the same relliance in them.

Weakness:

Not watertight!!

WARNING..."watertight" does not mean you can submerge the case. It will leak if you do. My case leaked after floating it in the water at the beach. Salt water ruined all my gear. Called Pelican and they said "watertight" to them does not mean submersible. I would call that false advertising and a scam!

Strength:

It carries a lifetime guarantee. Watertight, airtight and extremely tough.

Weakness:

None found.

I am an avid outdoors photographer who gets constant exposure to extreme weather: rain, heat, snow, altitude, you name it. I needed a tough plastic case that was air and watertight. I spent some time comparing different brands. I decided to purchase the Pelican Case. Since then, I have carried my trusted companion through rugged terrain, dropping it against rocks and in water, using it as a chair, and I have even stood on it to get that perfect shot.

Customer Service

After many years of abuse I lost the original purge valve screw. I contacted Pelican Case customer support to obtain a replacement part and their response was terrific: they sent me a whole new upgraded automatic purge valve as part of the warranty. www.casesbypelican.com

Strength:

Heavy duty. The case is made to protect, and it shows it.

Weakness:

At times, the small wheels don't provide enough ground clearance to prevent the case from scraping the ground over uneven surfaces.

If protection of your equipment is your concern above all else, then look no further than Pelican. A few reviews claim that the case is bulky, heavy, and awkward, but those characteristics display its ability to protect... Tough and solid. I would much rather lug a heavy case around with the confidence that my equipment is safe than open a lightweight, easy to carry case of lesser quality only to find shattered contents. Determine your priorities, then make the choice of which case you buy.

Customer Service

Outstanding. They stand behind their unconditional lifetime guarantee of excellence.

There really is no substitution for a Pelican Case in the backcountry... I use my 1620 for extended trips... It allows me to fit all my camera equipment in one case.. I do have a few smaller cases that I''''''''ll take when climbing.... It really is a great case if your going to have a base camp... There is a spot we camp in Tahoe during Winter that is not too far off the road. We usually stay for a few days so I can take a couple trips back to the car for extra gear. It''''''''s really great during winter because the moisture can''''''''t get in. There is a seal that cannot be broken. These things are so tough, I can''''''''t tell you how many times I''''''''ve dropped mine or slammed the trunk on it... I travel a ton so the 1620 is great for those days when you can''''''''t carry on... Just check it in and forget about it... It locks down and is air tight. You don''''''''t have to worry about your cargo in one of these cases. I''''''''ve started to use my case for things other than camera gear. I use it for my fishing reels when I go up to Canada... It is a great place to fit all my reels... You can put your rack in there to if your going on a climbing trip... You won''''''''t have to worry about your cams getting smashed.

Strength:

Seems to be watertight and has protected my equipment

Weakness:

bulky but has wheels so forget that... the protruding ridges at the base seem to break off relatively easily. It happened the second trip I took. The case and camera equipment aren''t much over 50lbs combined.

I have the 1650 and I pull out the foam and put in my LowePro Trekker Pro backpack inside...virtually a perfect fit. Anyway I fly a lot and I''m not sure if the airline baggage crews see it and do their best to break it but a couple of the ridges that you use to stand it up are broken off. The case is usable as I think its still airtight but when the ridge broke off it definately took a big chunk into the case out so much less thick in that area. Haven''t thought about warranty getting a new one yet.

Strength:

Tough, tough plastic body. Cubed foam is easy to prepare, better protection from the elements than Zero Halliburton, and much cheaper.

Weakness:

The clasps can be difficult to open. Pelican even sells a tool to help you unsnap the case.

This is a sturdy, durable, easier to set up alternative to Zero Halliburton cases. The body is very tough plastic, it is airtight and watertight, and the spaces for cameras and lenses are easy to prepare.

Strength:

Tough, waterproof (but see above), reliable.

Weakness:

If the cases are opened immediately after a submerging/ river crossing, the water droplets from the outside of the ''o ring groove'' fall into the case. This means that one has to wait till the case air - dries to open it (sometimes takes days in a rainforest) - or get water drops inside and dry them with a towel. I get around this by (seems ridiculous to wrap a watertight case to prevent it from getting wet!) putting the case in 2 large thick plastic bags that I fold down. I''ve never had this happen to my cases, but I''ve seen a broken latch (which Pelican replaced free of cost). Neoprene ''O'' ring deforms easily and needs to be replaced every 6 months. Wonder if silicone rubber might work better? Also a flush groove which doesn''t allow water droplets to collect in the first place would help.

I''ve used the 1520 earlier but sold it as I need the cases to fit into rucsacks. I now have the 1120, 1200, 1300 and 1400. I use the Pelicans in rainforests (I''m sometimes there for months at a time) and LOVE the cases. I''m most concerned about their ''watertight-ness''. I also use them to dry out my lenses (to prevent fungus) by putting the open lenses in with a sock full of freshly charged silica gel. This works well. HOWEVER! - Grouse # 1. I''ve had problems with a new case (1300) that I bought from a dealer. To test it, I dunked it in a bucket minus camera, and it leaked! I was shocked and after drying it out, dunked it again to see if I was wrong (see weaknesses). It leaked for sure. I got some replacement rings (takes a long time in India) and then the case was watertight. Pelican recommends changing the neoprene "O" rings every 6 months, the case was probably in storage for longer, and the seal has gotten compressed. Maybe they should ship the case without installing the seal/ include a new seal (and charge for it)with every case they sell. If I''d believed their watertight claim, my cams would be dead. Grouse # 2. The ''pick ''n pluck'' foam absorbs moisture! This makes for nice, tidy packing, but is an absolute no - no in the war against moisture. I don''t use the Pelican foam; but have replaced it with cheap black carry-mat closed cell foam - the kind one uses to put a sleeping bag on). Anyway grouses apart, these are presently the best cases in the world and used correctly work wonderfully well.

Customer Service

Prompt, excellent.
