Price Paid:  $139.00

Summary:

This is a big bag. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles, and that's the idea. It's simplicity means the F-1x is easy to use. The main compartment and big front and side pockets are easy to open - no zippers, no plastic or metal buckles - just big flaps. The side and front pockets close with velcro. The flap on the main compartment closes with strong steel snap hooks and O-rings, and there is a strong, detachable handle on top of the flap. The bag can also be picked up with the strong shoulder strap. There's a big back pocket that zips open, as does a sort of half pocket on the bottom of the lid. There are all sorts of accessories - backpack straps, custom inserts, etc. I have the ballistic nylon version, while the more traditional canvas bag has a more comfortable feel. I've owned many other bags over the years, and most of them have ended up with busted zippers and buckles, sitting in my closet, holding camera gear that I don't often use. The F-1x holds the gear I do like to use.o

Strengths:

Easy to configure, easy to open, lots of room, very comfortable, even the ballistic nylon version conforms comfortably to your body when it hangs off your shoulder. Optional padded inserts for main interior and side pockets.

Weaknesses:

Not waterproof, no feet on the bottom of the bag. Optional padded inserts for main interior and side pockets must be purchased separately. @

Price Paid:  $110.00 from B&H

Summary:

I was looking for a shoulder bad that was not too bulky and that could swallow all my gear while keeping this grab and shoot capability. This is it! In this bag, I can fit an Eos5 (+ Vertical Grip)mounted with the big 28-70 f2.8 Canon, a 100mm Macro Canon, a canon 20-35mm, a Canon 70-200mm f4, a 50mm canon lens, a teleconverter 2X, a Sigma 500 flash, a pouch with about 8 Cokin filter, a light meter, rolls of film, the tripod collar for the 70-200, Realease cable, grey cards, batteries... This is a bag for action, not a bag to store your gear and protect it efficiently against the elements. I love this bag, it's very well made, and the simplicity of its design makes it a kik to use for grab and shoot.

Strengths:

Simple and efficient design. Swallows ton of gear. (sore shoulder!) Side pokets are big and easy to access with one hand.

Weaknesses:

Is it waterproof? The soft top cover does not provide a complete seal with the body of the bag, especially on the side, something you have to be aware in dusty places or under the rain. Protection of gear, athough great, is not as good as a a more bulky padded bag.
