Price Paid:  $189.00 from B&H

Summary:

I picked Tamrac's 612 after looking at other camera bags from Tamrac and competitive brands. Needed a bag just large enough to carry two Canon F1's with lenses attached, another Canon body w/o lens, three additional lenses, shoe mount flash, lightmeter, grey card, box or two of Cokin filters, adapters and cords of various kinds, lots of film, batteries, a pair of sneakers and a change of clothes (just kidding!), but not so large that it looked or felt like I was carrying a Volkswagon.

Strengths:

Excellent utilization of space; top flight workmanship; secure multi-latch system; easy accessibility of gear...just what a good shoulder-carried camera bag should be.

Weaknesses:

None I can think of.

Similar Products Used:

Other bags of similar and smaller sizes, all of which were inferior to the 612.

Customer Service:

Never needed.

Review 2 of 4

Price Paid:  $290.00 from camera shop

Summary:

Just got the 612 for Christmas. Had one years ago and it got nicked from the back of my car. Luckily enough it was empty at the time.

Strengths:

Just the right size for lots of gear. I have a Nikon D1x and 6 lenses, flash in the main body. Still room for another body and a few more lenses. The 612 is just the right size, any bigger would be too big and any smaller would be useless. The steel D rings are a nice touch and all the belts and general construction is first rate. A really tough bag and it''s quality shows through.

Weaknesses:

Pop off film holders I could live without. When they are removed the retaining clips in the top can come in contact with the cameras in the main compartment and scratch them. Not a cheap bag but it is s pro item and pro gear is never cheap. Worth every cent.

Similar Products Used:

A 612 years ago and smaller Lowepro bags since.

Customer Service:

Never needed. The option of registering your warranty on-line shows that Tamrac are in touch with the reality of modern marketing.

Review 3 of 4

Model Reviewed:
Pro System 12 (612)

Summary:

Very nice big bag, perfect for me.

Strengths:

Nice and big, the way I like it. I carry two bodies and 4 lenses, a macro tube, flash, 20 rolls of film, & notebooks in the main cavity, and cleaning supplies and batteries, little camera accessories in the front pockets, and both end pockets are full of filters. And there is still room left over! Very adjustable interior platforms and partitions, not much wasted space. Suede strap pad does a good job of staying on your shoulder.

Weaknesses:

It's just a tad bigger than the perfect size, but I carry a lot of stuff, so I don't mind (except when the weight gets too high). The film storage Pop-off holders on the top flap are pretty useless, because I usually flip the top all the way round to the back when I'm shooting, and the film pockets would be in the way. The bag is big enough to store 20 rolls of film easily in one of the unused lens partitions. If I fill the bag it's too heavy to carry on a hike. When the bag is loaded the main compartment sags out a little. Very small things can get trapped under the main compartment floor; keep your change in a pocket. Tripod straps are not very useful.

Similar Products Used:

Smaller Tamrac bags.

Customer Service:

None needed.

Review 4 of 4

Model Reviewed:
Pro System 12 (612)

Summary:

A very handy bag for 2 35mm bodies (with lenses) and a variety of other lenses, film, and all that other stuff that gets into the bag. It even has a large flat back pocket that holds manuals nicely.

Strengths:

Holds 2 35mm cameras, and a variety of lenses, up to the Nikon 70-210 size, lots of film, etc.

Weaknesses:

So far nothing.

Similar Products Used:

Looked at a bunch at B&H. Picked the one that I liked most.
