Summary:

Overall excellent VIDEO camera. Beware this is NOT a megapixel digital still camera. Photos are good for emails but not for actual printing. Controls are excellent and easy to use. Figured out 95% of the controls and features without cracking open the manual. I did go back and read the manual just to see what I might be missing.
STAY AWAY FROM SONY - TERRIBLE RELIABILITY !!!

Strengths:

Video quality

Weaknesses:

Image stabilization - digital not analog - therefore, not very effective.

Similar Products Used:

Sony PC-100, older JVC VHS-C

Customer Service:

excellent - I called Canon about how to clean fingerprints off LCD screen. They were very nice, polite and helpful.

Review 2 of 8

Summary:

I love this Camera!! The progressive scan feature is nice to have. I like the fact that i can transfer the video to my computer, the only problem is for every minute of video it takes 222mb. Now i just need to get a new computer. The camera has a lot of options and it is going to take me a while to figure out how to use them all.

Strengths:

size, the height is smaller then my palm m505. The smart media card. Remote control, s-video, and the ability to transfer existing movies from your vhs vcr to the digital form.

Weaknesses:

stills could be better, but are more than satisfactory. Battery life is short, I got the bp-422, so it lasts 3 times as long.

Similar Products Used:

I liked it better than the jvc. The sony was nice but i just dont feel good about the touch lcd screen. That may break or become damaged to soon.

Review 4 of 8

Summary:

This is my second camcorder and my first digital one. The picture quality is incredible. Low-light shooting is positively breathtaking--it's that good! It's vey easy to use and so comfortable that you almost forget you're using it. The still photos are of decent quality and I haven't seen a camera that compares to its low-light photos. I usually don't gush like this about products--maybe I should ask Canon if they'll pay me to write the ads for this product.

Strengths:

Picture quality, ease of use, very fun to use, incredible low light shooting ability.

Weaknesses:

Battery life could be better. In fact, I've ordered the extended battery pack.

Similar Products Used:

An older JVC vhs-c.

Customer Service:

I haven't had a need to try Canon's customer service.

Review 5 of 8

Summary:

We were expecting a baby and I wanted to capture all the moments on digital. I compared a lot of digital cameras before I made my decision on the Elura. For the price, you get a great digital video camera that's easy to use, compact, and quality video images. I still think the digital video is in it infancy but I'm not waiting forever.

I really didn't want to spend $400 more for the Sony PC100 that had an impressive professional, low light lens, and the infrared beam to display clips instantly on TV.

I had to purchase a firewire kit to transfer the video and stills to my computer. I'm very happy with the camera. Now I've got to ponder on the purchase of a new PC because it's legacy.

Strengths:

The compact size is great. Digital video image is excellent. The optical stabilization is great. The special edit effects are great additions.

Weaknesses:

Still pictures are not megapixals but I can live with it. Battery life is only 45 mins. But I bought the extended pack (2 hrs.) which is a must.
