from Circuit City Summary: The horizontal lines (520) of resolution, and the price, are mainly what influenced my decision to purchase this camera. The image quality is superb with very little, if any, image cropping when the DIS is engaged. The IEEE1394 interface works flawlessly with Adobe Premier 6.0 making editing effortless. The only drawback to this camera is the tape mechanism, which requires loading from the bottom of the camera. Should you be taping a live event and the camera is on the tripod, you'll need to remove it to drop in a fresh tape. If you can live with this, it's a great camera. The features are confined to functionality and not fluff so, if you're looking for a camera that'll take the place of your editor, this one isn't for you. However, you will not need to purchase an additional encoder card to do those impressive dissolves - DV plays right from your computer editor through the camera A/V output WITHOUT THE WEAR ON THE TAPE MECHANISM! You can then dub the end products on whatever format you wish. The only extra I had to purchase was an IEEE1394 card for my computer. ADAPTEC makes a really nice one and it comes with the cable. Strengths: 520 lines of resolution
IEEE1394 friendly (Adobe Primier 6.0)
Good EIS (electronic image stabilization) Weaknesses: Bottom loading tape mechanism Similar Products Used: JVC S-VHS
