Price Paid:  $800.00 from Circuit City

Summary:

buy it only if you are going to use it for a year or two. After that you will never buy JVC again since they are prone to have "EO4 error and unsafe mode Errors" whish are caused due to the use of any tape that is not JVC.

Strengths:

good for 2 years or till warranty runs out

Weaknesses:

lasts only 2 years

Review 2 of 17

Price Paid:  $799.00 from Costco

Summary:

I liked the features, outputs, and dual mode video/still when I bought it. Was very disappointed with the digital still function. Even on best quality the pictures are useless, even on computer screen. The video image quality was great in good light. In lower light settings, the auto focus constantly adjusted from focused to blurry and back. Drove me nuts watching videos of my baby as it would blur and focus constantly. Also had a high pitched hum during playback of tapes. I returned it to Costco and am looking into something else. Kind of disappointed with Costco's selection, only JVC brand right now. I don't think I want another JVC product.

Strengths:

Video quality was good. Compact, light weight

Weaknesses:

Digital stills are useless, battery life less than 45 minutes, had trouble with connection to computer. Would work sometimes and not others.

Similar Products Used:

Sony Hi 8

Customer Service:

Costco is the only place to buy electronics. No high dollar warranties to buy. They will take anything back if you have a problem with it.

Review 5 of 17

Summary:

Good solid little camera. Those who complain about it I think had the wrong expectation (megapixel pics, video download w/o firewire card, etc.)

Picture is very nice on your TV and also nice to edit (if you have a fire wire card and a 60 GB hard drive!) The software included with my firewire card was more than adequate for basic video editing.

Strengths:

low price, big screen, very decent picture.

Weaknesses:

battery life is too short
Switch to chose where to store still shots (flash card or tape) is akwardly positioned. Macro is not wide enough, seems like a 50mm lens in a reflex camera. Special effects cannot realistically be selected while filming (menu is too complex)

Similar Products Used:

sony analog camcorder. Polaroid still camera. Sony controls are more intuitive, but not worth the $500 extra in my view
