from 05/14/04 Summary:While the product worked, the photographs and videos generated from the product are good. The color is great. I based my decision to purchase the product from an asessment by Consumer Reports on a comparable Panasonic model.
The CCD Image Sensor lasted only three years after normal use and care per product manual. I have never had any camcorder or camera fail to operate. This is my first Panasonic electronic product,
If you decide to purchase the camcorder, get an extended warranty. Better yet get a refurnished model. A local repair store told me that it would cost $265.00 to replace the sensor image. I have not been able to reach Panasonic's Consumer Service Department by telephone for repairs or replacement. Strengths:Good video and photographs for a camcorder/camera combination. At the time of purchase, it was the only camcorder mass produced and commonly offered with,at least, 2.1 megapixel still picture imagery recording or better. I found the product extremely versatile. I used it as a video cam. Weaknesses:CCD Image Sensor (the heart of camcorder video and photography imaging) does not last. Similar Products Used:I found the quality of the video and photos equal or better than other Sony models , which friends owned at the time. I used the camcorder to record numerous plays and presentations. Customer Service:Their lines are constantly busy.
