from Best Buy Summary: ($699-$100 rebate) This takes very nice video. I am new to digital video, but I think the quality is very good. Much better than my old analog camcorder. Strengths: 1. 26x zoom! This large of a zoom is hard to find. Especially at this price.
2. Comes with Zoom Microphone which makes a big difference when zooming in on subjects. I''ve been told this is an $80-100 value if you had to purchase this seperately.
3. Has a "picture in picture" mode that is great for filming concerts. You can zoom out to get the entire band then zoom in on your child through the PIP.
4. Has low light "cats eye" setting. Works very well in low light though it lacks color with this setting.
5. Has Infra red setting for recording in zero light. Really cool. I tried this out and it works great though I''m not sure how often I would use this.
6. Great feature is the "quick return," which automatically finds the end of the last recorded spot (as long as the tape was not removed from the camcorder). No more "blank" or "fuzzy" spots between tapings!
7. Has "widescreen" recording mode.
8. Input/output connections are easily accessable. It''s a breeze to hook up to any VCR or TV to view what you''ve just taped. Cables are included. Can also digitally record from your VCR to digitize your old VHS tapes.
9. Remote control included.
10. Quick recharge ti Weaknesses: I have small hands and for me the top buttons are a little hard to reach. It has an auto shut off feature that doesn''t seem to apply to the VCR mode. If you inadvertantly leave the camcord in VCR mode it drains the battery. Wish it came with the larger battery. (Comes with the 100 minute battery.)
