Summary:

I have had this camera since May 99. I have taken over 2700 pictures. All modes have been tested. The stitcher is great. Closeups of people is exceptional. I use it at my wife's Karaoke show. I email the photos of the singers. Everyone is impressed with the quality of the pictures. I use only 1024 by 768. With a 16 meg Compact Flash Card I get 75 high quality shots. I like the prints made at that resolution. Outdoors and indoors alike the exposure is right on. It is a very intuitive camera, easy to over-ride the flash etc. I use the rechargeable Canon batteries. They seem to last forever. I carry a spare charged up. I have never been stuck without battery power. This is an exceptionally well designed and built camera. Canon has my vote. I am looking at the S10 for me and let my wife have the A5 Zoom.

Strengths:

Compact, Automatic, Picture Quality, Color rendition. low light and zoom

Weaknesses:

Getting used to the 1 second pause between focus and shooting the picture, no add on lenses.

Summary:

Good little camera for the money. Actually the best little camera for the money. I got mine for about $350 on the web. The picture quality and color balance is better than most of the cameras out there. The glass lens is also a very good quality lens and it translates to great picture qulaity. The photo stitch capacity built in to the camera also helps with shooting panoramics and larger objects. overall very good camera for starting out in digital photography.

Strengths:

Good color balance very easy to use Small enough to fit in a shirt pocket good picture quality for a 800k pixel camera

Weaknesses:

slow to respond to the "shutter" medium slow cycle time between shots

Similar Products Used:

Kodak DC260 Sony Mavica

Summary:

This camera has indeed been discontinued in deference to the A50. I called a local dealer in my area. He had one left at $389, which I thought to be a decent price. You might be able to find one if you call around your town? I haven't evaluated this camera yet. I'm a little nervous that it's not a megapixel camera. I only really want to use it for personal stuff. Perhaps it's good enough? I bought it for its good reputation and since they want a thumbs up, I'll give it a five for now. I'll be back.
