Casio QV 5000SX

I've decided to buy a digicam two months ago. I started reading most of the reviews of the digicams in my price range (which was under 500$). Then I visited all the digicam sellers I found in my city. I must tell you that prices over the net are much more cheaper, but then I found this model for a very cheap prize without a cable, manual, guarantee, cd, box, etc... I turned back to the internet for another complicated search. I realized that according to the reviews over the net this was one of the best digicams with its strong picture quality. I suggest you to get one with optical zoom. If you can't afford one with optical zoom then this is the most suitable one. It can store 17 pictures in high resolution but 89 pics with 640 x 480 which is really satisfying for me. It can store three 6.4 sec. movies. LCD is quite well even in the sunlight. Easy to use (I learned everything by myself in a few days as I didn't have a manual). Uploading doesn't take much time. I downloaded a 2mb file from internet and a paintshop is enough if you don't own the CD. This camera is really enough for a beginner like me.

-LCD eats batteries too fast but it's same in all digicams. -No removable memory but 89 is really enough. -Digital zoom is 4x but doesn't mean much. Optical zoom is needed.

I bought this camera to shoot some high quality close ups for a CD ROM that was released by Mattel. They were excellent quality and perfect for my intent. It has also worked well for vacation photos and others. Here is one I shot the other day: http://members.aol.com/y2kgts/top1.jpg While I think it is an excellent camera overall, the processing speed is poor and the zoom is even worse. If you wish to take action shots, plan on capturing only a small portion at the beginning and the end, as the camera is slow to process each photo before it allows the next one to be shot. The zoom is a digital (not optical) zoom, so the quality is grainy and no better than if you had enlarged it with Photoshop. Not even a valid feature in my opinion. Love the camera overall, but see where it could be improved.

Poor, Poor, Poor, my camera broke and it took them 2 months to fix it.

This camera is now on close out as I see in earlier reviews. Many of the short comings are handled in the newer models. Such as removeable media. Still no external flash sync though. Many of the newer cameras exceed this model now.

I like the variable resolution. It generally shoots pictures well.Good color saturation. Does pretty much all I ask of it. I did make up a battery pack for it to shoot in the field.

The battery compartment catch broke about six months into ownership. I thought it a pretty cheap mechanism considering I paid @$500 for mine. I also would like to see an external flash sync on this and other digital cameras. Also a cable shutter release would make us old timers feel better too. Lastly, removeable media would round this camera out just fine.
