Summary: Ok, recently on a cruise I borrowed this digicam from a very generous friend. In just over 10 days I shot 800+ images. This being the first digicam I had used ... I was totally impressed with the core performance of the 700 without realizing that it actually outperformed virtually all competitors in it's class. The color balance and dynamic color temperature range were all text book on target. Not all digicams do that. AND, the focus was 98% right on! Some digicams have a real problem focusing. Flash exposure was very good - except in distant targets or in dark/low reflectivity settings the power of the flash can show exhaustion (not surprising for any camera flash).
Overall, however... this digicam performs with a clearly reasoned practicality designed in and great strength in core competantcies. The lens cover is intergal with a simple twist for opening and securing. Rechargable NiMH batteries are included with a microprocessor controlled quick charger. A very nice touch from Epson. And I love the fact that it is finished all over in "Professional" black.
If you can find one today it shoud be pretty reasonably priced considering it has been discontinued for some time. I just bought two for well under $200. Recently I saw one auctioned at Egghead for 250+. AND, Egghead retails a streight purchace of this for $399!!
This is a very good digicam that (IMHO) out performs the likes of Olympus 360s, Fuji and Kodak digicams in the 1.3-1.0 MP class. They use smart media (2nd rate) and have smaller AND lower performance LCD screens. Also, most of the others share the lack of an optical zoom. I guess they have the advantage of being more PROFITABLE to their manufacturers since they have less to offer!
Epson should have marketed this more heavily because it is technically superior to it's competitors. Oh well.
I hope someone found this to be insightful and/or entertaining. Please rate me with the button below accordingly.

Julianna Strengths: Among many aspects are: Large 2" LCD when most others are 1.8" or even 1.5"! Sharp images with near perfect color balance EVERY TIME (almost). Compact and ppowerfull. You can shoot about 80 images with a 32 MB card. Enough for the average day easily for someone as "snap happy" as myself. Consider, I shot 800+ pics in 10 days (downloading daily to a notebook). Weaknesses: No optical zoom. Also, I've heard that maximum size CF card is a 32. But that's OK since we're working with 1.25 MP images. Similar Products Used: Actually, my current digicam is a Canon G1. Also, I've had a Casio QV3000EX for a few weeks as well. Customer Service: First rate.
