Price Paid:  $0.00 from on-line

Summary:

I love this camera. I keep it in my purse at all times. When I purchased, I was a beginner with no interest in photos. Since I'm gungho and even have successfully entered my photos in the local Fair. This camera took awesome picture in the automatic mode right out of the box. The color and clarity is awesome. I've since purchased the Epson PhotoPC 3000Z and don't like it as well.e

Strengths:

Awesome clarity and color. Not as sensitive to movement at the 3000z. Great job on close-ups.

Weaknesses:

No optical zoomÄ

Epson 3000Z

Customer Service:

Called customer service with a question about batteries and they were quick to answer the phone and very helpful.s

Summary:

Picture color is terrible, I do not want this camera for a tenth of its price. Other than picture quality, it is great. I has a lot of features, USB, freindly user interface ... But remember a camera's primary job is to take good pictures. This camera cannot do the primary job well. Do not think you can fix picture color in software. It cannot be fixed by applying a fixed filter uniformly. My first digicam is an Olympus 2020Z. Its picture quality is great. But in a few weeks, the protruding lens stopped working. So I returned it. But my digital photography experience was so good that I have to buy another digital camera. This time, afraid of fragile lens problems, I bought a zoom-less Epson photoPC 800. Its picture color was so bad that I do not even want this camera for a tenth of its price. So I returned it also. Now what should I do? I still want a digital camera. I looked Nikon models (800 & 950). Nikon's zooming lens is covered, so it will be robust. But based on the sample pictures on the web and messages in the news group, I noticed Nikon also has some color problem. In-door pictures tend to be cold and white. Peolpe also talk about purple cast, and red eye problems. So I did not go ahead with Nikon. Then one day I went to a local shop, I saw Olympus D-490Z. It is like a compact and less manual version of 2020Z. I knew its picture quality must be comaprable to 2020Z. Its lens is less fragile, since the moving parts are hidden in a barrel, although the barrel is moving. So I believe D-490Z should give me the good picture quality of 2020Z without 2020Z's fragile lens. I bought D-490Z. It is just as I expected. I got great pictures in all situation in full auto mode -- in door or out door, cloudy or shining, with ot without flash. It has some White Balance settings for different in door light conditions and out door weather conditions. But I never used them. The auto mode is just good enough. I also noticed this camera performs extremely well in low light without flash -- the pictures are just like what you see in the real scene.

Strengths:

USB, ...

Weaknesses:

image quality, color

Review 3 of 14

Summary:

Well, I had previously written a pretty sterling review about the Toshiba PDR-M4 but have to eat my words. Though it was a thoroughly capable performer, it had too many consumer issues to deal with, hence, my now acquiring the Epson PhotoPC 800 for my 2nd carry along digital. Color rendition and saturation is much better than the Coolpix 700, 800 and the Toshiba. Very high quality images even when printed to 11x14 using the HyPict mode. It's a real joy to carry around and is less bulky than any of the aforementioned cameras. If you don't mind getting in tight, then the lack of a zoom shouldn't bother you. A great little 'street' camera.

Strengths:

Great quality images. Little post processing in Photoshop. Lots of manual control for advanced shooters.

Weaknesses:

Lens cover is cumbersome. Forget to open it and you will think your batteries have crapped out. Flash is a little underpowered.

Customer Service:

Fingers crossed.

Summary:

I did a lot of research before I bought my Epson 800 digital camera. I wanted a camera that could take 2 Megapixel pictures that was affordable with a USB port and decent battery life. I decided in order to keep the price in my range to get a camera without an optical zoom. The picture quality for the Epson 800 was highly rated in a PC Magazine review, there was a rebate running, and Page Computer (www.pagecomputer.com) had a really great price. ... so I decided to order the Epson 800. I have been very happy with my purchase, and I am constantly handing out photos to friends and family that I print out with my printer. The quality of the pictures is such that I have been very happy with my 8"x11.5" prints. The Epson 800 is very light and easy to carry around, so it is a great travel camera. I have not been able to convince myself with use my 35mm camera since I got my Epson 800. I really like the LCD screen. I take almost all my picture using it. It helps you to easily figure out the best angle to adjust the camera to reduce light glare. It is also of course helpful for reviewing your photos after you take them.

Strengths:

Great pictures, very reasonably priced, easy to use, USB port, LCD screen, and it is small and light so easy to carry around.

Weaknesses:

PC Mag mentioned in their review that you need to be prepared to wipe the LCD screen frequently. When you use the viewfinder, you are generally leaning your face on the LCD screen so it does need cleaning often. Batteries seem to last about 10 pictures for me, but I think that is largely because I use the LCD screen so much. I am still using the 2 sets of batteries that came with the camera. No optical zoom.

This is my first digital camera.

Customer Service:

No problems so far.

Summary:

After trying 3 differant cameras I settled with this one. I liked the small size and the 2.3 megapixel resolution. Also I like the manual features and program features. I've been using this camera almost every day for the last 6 months and not a problem with it. I'm very happy with the image quality. The manual features were very useful especially when taking fast action shots. I have used it for a huge variety of situations and found the camera up to every task. There are better cameras out there but at the time I bought this camera it was alot cheaper than the other 2 megapixel cameras.

Strengths:

Resolution, Manual controls, camera size, programs

Weaknesses:

no zoom!!!! memory card hard to extract, 1 - 2 second delay before the camera actually shoots the picture.

None
