Review 2 of 35

Price Paid:  $100.00 from ebay

Summary:

I bought this camera almost a year ago and have taken roughly 8500 photos with it. Overall I'd have to say that while it is a good value, its age shows (It was made in 1998). It takes a long time to read/write to the memory card, it only download through the serial port, there is a long delay between pressing the button and taking the picture, and the 2x digital zoom is completely useless. The photo quality is decent most of the time. It works horribly for most close-range or low-light photos, and the color/saturation often messes up if a picture is predominantly one color. Overall, it's not bad for an outdated low-end camera, but in the end you get what you pay for. It's served me reasonably well but I will soon move to something more advanced.

Strengths:

cheap and simple, easy to use, reasonably durable, long battery life (when not using the LCD screen)

Weaknesses:

lousy picture quality in certain situations, very very slow serial port downloads, very basic features

Review 3 of 35

Summary:

I am only begining to use a digital camera. In fact, I relied on other reviewers to help me choose this camera. I'm writing this info now because I don't know how long it will take before I qualify to critique on digital photography -- I'll leave that to you guys. But, one thing I can comment on was the great customer service I got from HP -- quite unexpectadly. I just bought this camera in mint condition off of ebay, but it didn't come with a video cable that the manual mentions I can use to view photos on a television -- a great accessory for someone on vacation not taking a laptop. Well, I only waited about 3 or 5 minutes and got a live person who then connected me to a digital camera specialist. Keep in mind, this camera is out of warranty. Anyhow, the specialist took my name and other info along with the serial number to upgrade their records that I now own it. Next, he found the video cable and ordered one to be shipped to me -- no charge whatsoever. Now that is great "customer care." I mean I was willing to buy one. In other words, it's nice to know that HP is there for me, even though I bought it used. What else can I say, but great shootin!

Strengths:

Good reviews, no matter where you look.

Weaknesses:

Summary:

This camera is an excellent value. It was my first digital camera, and I would recommend it ito anyone that is looking for one. Like a few of the others, I also installed an 8 MB flash card instead of the original 4. This camera has the ability to take some really great pictures, and after you get used to it you will understand how to work with really getting the photo you want. And hey If it doesn't come out ritght the first time, then just erase it and take twenty more untill you find the one you like. Good Luck
