Price Paid:  $250.00 from Private

Summary:

Great little camera. I do a lot of mascot work and I need my helper to take a LOT of pictures, (http://www.marcwolf.org) and I use this little camera all of the time to take shot of me on site with children and adults. I was initially sceptical as I brought this unit secondhand, but I quickly realised that as all of my work of web-published I don't need megapixels. When I take a shot I can be sure that it will JPEG down to about 26k, which is perfect as the main shot (and I usually take a 3k thumbnail from that afterwards) After a busy day (and with a 32mb flash card that holds about 250 HiRes pics) I can download them all and have them up on my site for people to see in about 2 hours. Which is wonderful for folks who forgot their camera and want a picture of me with their kids. The biggest gripe that folks have is batteries. As it does have a socket on the side for the battery adaptor I have made up a battery pack with 6AA NiMh batteries (1700mha rating) and these work very well over a whole day plus more. At the moment I am looking at using a card reader to speed up the download from the card as the serial port does take some time. One last point - is you are a programmer you can doenload the DLL's from Kodak on controlling this unit and really have some fun - like 5 min timelapse shots over a whole day or more.

Strengths:

Small, Compact, and its pictures can be jpeg to appox 26k for web work. Resolution not that great - but see point above. Tools for the job - if your not doing a magazine with enlargements then this unit is good. SDK available for interesting exoeriments - like timelapse

Weaknesses:

Batteries - make uyp a pack with 6AA NiMh batteries from a electronics store and you'll never be caught short Flash is rather week - but use a photoeditor to lighten/brighten you finished work.

Customer Service:

Never had to deal with them. Handy with screwdriver and solering iron

Review 2 of 16

Summary:

I bought the DC25 about 2 years ago when they were ending their run in the shops. I paid A$325, which in hindsight was a little steep. Initially we loved the ability to snap shots, view them on the LCD screen and delete them if they were rubbish. But as we came to learn more about Digital photography, we understood what a basic product we were using. The DC25 has poor max. resolution (about 130,000 pixels) and sucks up batteries quickly (in Aust they are around $24 for 2). But it is a fun, easy to use unit, that we had no problems using. If you were to buy one 2nd hand, as a first time digital camera, it would be OK. But if you want something that takes decent picks and doesn't send you broke buying batteries, steer clear of the DC25.

Strengths:

Robust Simple Cheap

Weaknesses:

poor resolution uses batteries quickly slow to refresh

Review 3 of 16

Summary:

This camera owes me nothing! Well, maybe a nickel. I bought this camera thinking I would use it just for business. Was I surprised at the many uses I would find for this DC25 by Kodak. I HAVE used it for business and found it impressive not only to me, but also my clients. I take pictures of favorite rooms in homes we are looking at and am able to take, erase and replace more favorite rooms as we go. By the time we are finished looking at homes, my client is more able to choose their favorite by looking at the pictures. For listing properties, it enables me to SHOW the homeowner what their home will look like on a brochure and that I am able to email their home to clients out of town who I am working with. It allows me to show clients' families locations and schools as well as the home they will be living in. On a more personal note, the camera allows me to shop more easily...I took pictures of my front door and took the camera with me to the door store. I was able to photograph the door I wanted; take it home via my camera and superimpose it over my old door to see what it would look like. Worked like a charm. I am able to take pictures of items needed from a hardware store and show it to the clerk for replacement parts without sounding stupid. Family wise, it was taken to a very important, once in a lifetime reunion and I was then able to send my photos all over the world so that we all had the memories with names to go with. I love to take nature shots, this one is wonderful on still shots. EASY to use; no fancy stuff. Take the picture; like it, keep it; hate it; erase it and retake with the push of a button. NOT overwhelming, easy for ANYONE. If you have any kind of fear of digital; this one will eliminate that fear and MAKE YOU LOOK GOOD IN THE PROCESS. Everyone wants to see what you are doing; a great ice breaker; wonderful social enabler. Good color; ease; small enough and light enough to carry everywhere. Also wonderful if you want to use a regular camera, like on a trip and you are afraid the picture won't come out; take it first with the digital and then take your "hard copy". You can do this over and over by taking and erasing with the digital and then shooting with the hard camera.

Strengths:

Ease of use good color Good size Great socially; draws a crowd Makes you look like a pro Easy to transmit pictures

Weaknesses:

EATS up batteries NOT great on people pictures; better on stills Didn't include a card for extra pictures

Haven't used comparable products in digital

Review 4 of 16

Summary:

Good camera at a great price. It doesn't take the best quality pictures, but I've seen a lot worse.

Strengths:

It has all the extras that are usually left off of cameras this cheap. The LCD screen, flash, memory expansion. It's great for web photos.

Weaknesses:

The batteries are very expensive. It doesn't come with a power cable. The serial download is very time consuming.

Similar Products Used:

This is my first digital camera.

Customer Service:

Well, since it's discontinued, getting the extras is difficult and expensive. But Kodac did come through for me.

Review 5 of 16

Summary:

It is a great starter camera. I got mine when I was 17 and now I am getting ready to purchase a more professional model. It gives users a good understanding of how to use a camera, and how digital photography/artwork is created.

Strengths:

This camera is very easy to use. And durable (it has been drapped quite a few times). It is small (pocket-sized) and light. It comes with software that is great for a kid or someone else using it for the first time.

Weaknesses:

The picture quality is low, it uses expensive batteries, and it has an innacurate view finder for pictures at a closer range. Download time (to my pc) is long.
