Review 2 of 18

Price Paid:  $26.00 from Ebay

Summary:

Cheap camera but OK as a starter unit. Pic quality is OK. Great for e-mailing pics to family and friends. Flash is too strong but can be corrected by covering the flash lens with a small piece of thin, white paper the size of the flash lens and taped in place with scotch tape. Kinda crude but works to correct the flash. You have to LEARN how to us this cheap cam. It works better outdoors but you still have to learn its limits and what lighting works best. Lighting is the key to using this cam! Overall considering the price an OK little cam. Use the AC adapter as much as you can to conserve battery life. Not a mid or high end unit!

Strengths:

Price, ease of use.

Weaknesses:

Flash too bright(must be corrected), pic quality is only OK but acceptable.

Customer Service:

Customer Service responded to my e-mail for info. promptly. Seemed OK.

Review 3 of 18

Summary:

I have used several of the cheap 640 x 480 cameras lately and this one clearly takes the best photos of them all, regardless of features, etc. Most of the lesser cameras have a combination of terrible edge to edge focus in their lenses (the Largan is a glass lens) and really bad interpolation software processing the images internally in the camera. The Largan takes very nice, printable pictures that I don't think anyone would have to apologize for sharing.

Strengths:

Image quality

Weaknesses:

Several of the photos I have taken refuse to download...

Review 4 of 18

Summary:

This is a pretty good little camera for the price. I paid in the $50 range for mine on Ebay. I have only used it a little so far as a second camera while I have been away from home but I have gotten surprisingly decent results. There are not too many settings you can set and the camera is a little slow between pictures but it is usable for general picture taking. It also uses a lithium battery that is not rechargeable which could get expensive especially if you don't use the adapter for downloading. It uses Adobe Photo Deluxe for downloading the pictures which seems to download fairly quickly for a serial connection but I found the program required quite a few steps to just save the pictures as a JPEG. The camera probably works best in good sunlight. The flash seems OK but it does wash things out a little if you get too close and it isn't very powerful. Still, the pictures come out reasonably well. If you resample them to a smaller size the quality improves a bit too. If you are looking for a cheap first digital camera for general snapshots this is a great buy. Just don't expect to be able to alter the settings a lot for things such as low-light and so forth. I have a Kodak DC 200 which is more flexible and gives slightly better quality but this camera does well considering it cost me $200 less.

Strengths:

Very inexpensive Seems fairly easy to use Comes with an adapter to save batteries Pretty good picture quality for the price. Compact (fits in pocket)

Weaknesses:

Uses expensive battery Few settings Can't change lenses (no zoom) A bit slow between shots Flash is a little tricky Picture quality is a little granier than a more expensive camera Software is complete but requires lots of steps to save pictures

Summary:

This camera is for people that want to say that they only paid $150 for a digital camera. It has only the most basic functions and limited capabilities. If $150 is a lot of money for you, wait another year or two for a better $150 camera. Or use a cheap film camera until then. Don't waste money that you could be using on something with more value. It might actually have some use if $150 isn't too much to spend on a toy. You could give one to your kids or keep it in the glovebox of your car for UFO sightings or whatever. It is very capable of producing those grainy photos that they show on the TV, even at close range in ideal weather conditions.

Strengths:

Simple. Almost all computers have a serial port connector. Not every computer has a USB port yet or the OS support. The driver plug-in is somewhat stable. Battery life isn't too bad for any digital camera. Small and lightweight.

Weaknesses:

You can't get too close with the flash or everything will be washed out. If you get too close without flash the picture will be out of focus. Anything more than a few feet away is too small and grainy (in the picture) to identify. Serial port connection is slow. I suspect the CCD is actually a 320x200 and the files are converted to 640x480 in the software as they exit the camera. It would explain the image quality and the high compression.
