Review 2 of 70

Price Paid:  $375.00 from .com source

Summary:

A decent digital camera with excellent optics and reasonable controls. This is my first digital so I read reviews and wanted to try a 2Meg to start. I have not been disapointed in most cases. A good outdoor camera, a marginal indoor camera.

Strengths:

Optics and digital quality most outdoor photos have good color and quality. Autofocus works well Optical zoom in working ranges W to T does fine. 1.25 to 2.5 are empty magnifcation (blow up) settings. User presets are very handy to "goose" up the flash settings. Compact with decent ergonomic controls Simple P&S mode. Quality in Fine mode seems to be equivalent to average P&S models.

Weaknesses:

Flash is too weak and requires some contrast and brightness enhancing beyond 10 feet. F3.5 is marginal. Would like to see a 2.8 as minimum. Needs auxillary (hot shoe)flash controls Menu controls take some study Battery hungry; get NiMh rechargable batteries Video screen needs some shading for outdoor use. Standard 8Meg card is too small. I use a 32 which is fine for a normal use.

Review 3 of 70

Price Paid:  $500.00 from abes of main

Summary:

I have owned an 800 for a year and have taken about 700MB of pics so far. Its 9/2001 so most people can find one for $300-400. It is a serious camera than a novice like myself had enjoyed learning on. With 4 1600 MaH NiMh AA''s this camera will last all day but no Less than 1600MaH! This will print out a 8x10 from an epson that will amaze you. Like everything practice and you will be able to work it better in low light conditions (read on).

Strengths:

Pic Quality. Ease of use. Price. Zoom is OK. I bought the extras knowing I will upgrade to a 995 one day. Buy a USB card reader.

Weaknesses:

taking on-the-fly requires the continous setting, assuming you have already focused. Low Light requires slow-sync flash. BSS feature is hit or miss. Resolution comes in handy when cropping out pics, and that''s when you look to move on, But learn how to repixelate in Photoshop before giving up...

Similar Products Used:

one minus on all digicams is the quick pic- after you turn on and focus and refocus, that priceless shot is over.

Customer Service:

they sent me a rebate check pronto for this last year, thats all I know.

Review 4 of 70

Summary:

I have to tell you that I know nothing about cameras. I took the advice of a friend, who is a professional photographer, and purchased this camera over the Canon Powershot A20. For a guy like me, the camera has lots of options and it is just as easy to take a bad picture as it is a good one. Please people, learn to use the camera properly and it is one of the best one's out there. The manual settings are fantastic when you learn how to use them!! The close ups are exceptional, the colors are great, and the ability to takes B&W pics makes my wife very happy!! The Internet is a great tool for learning what you can and cannot do with a camera. As I said previously, anyone who has this camera and cannot take a good shot, should learn how to use it. I am still learning but I now have some pics that I am able to frame and be very proud of. Thank you.

Strengths:

The camera has enough options to grow with to as you begin to learn more about photography. You can purchase it now at a great price!!

Weaknesses:

None.
