Strengths: Easy to use
Never has a glitch or problem
works with any photo typesWeaknesses: Wish they had an updated versionBottom Line: I got this software with the purchase of my first ever Polariod Digital MP3 back in 1998! I absolutely love this software... although the camera has long since been replaced... I always download and use the Polaroid PhotoMax software! Its so easy to use and I never have problems with it. I wish they would come out with a newer version... as my old version will no longer install on Windows 7 which makes me very sad!

Bottom Line: Polaroid PhotoMax Pro ... I don't even remember which polaroid product this little program came with, but I've been using PhotoMax Pro version 1.0 for almost 15 years and it's still chugging along beautifully. All my other programs on Windows have crashed numerous times but PhotoMax Pro has survived three versions of windows and still works like a charm. It almost seems like a mistake, because windows software is supposed to fail, right? I've tried photoshop and other photo editing software, but I find PhotoMax Pro so much easier and quicker to use and it includes all the features that I actually need. Can you believe it... this software was made in 1994 and still works in 2011 on Vista, and handles the pictures from my new digital camera. And the albums feature is also so easy and reliable.
I can't say enough good things about this software so I'll stop now. The only downside is unless you are an archeologist, it's unlikely that you will be able to unearth PhotoMax Pro because it is so ancient. I hope the latest ArcSoft programs are as good, but frankly until my PhotoMax is no longer compatible, that's what I'll be using!

Bottom Line: This is more to agree with instructions for installing the PhotoMax/ArcSoft software. I bought this when I had Windows 98, but was never able to install the software because it wasn't compatible with Windows 98 either even though it says Windows 95 or 98 and is a 1999 copyright. There actually were pictures that turned out. Amazing. I was never able to find anything on the Polaroid website either.

Strengths: This an inexpensive camera and is great for kids and beginners. It takes a decent picture, especially to email back home on vacation. A lot of fun, lots software can do to photos after storing.Weaknesses: Not great on indoor photos of objects over 6-7 feet away when flash is needed.Bottom Line: Instructions for installing PhotoMax on Windows XP system:

NOTES
Limited testing of the Program Compatibility Wizard has shown that the PhotoMAX application is functional within Windows XP -- however, some special PhotoMAX features (Screensaver, Sticker Store Deluxe) may not work properly.
If PhotoMAX will not run after using the Program Compatibility Wizard, there may be a conflict with the computer's hardware system. Polaroid's Digital Camera Serial Troubleshooting Guide offers complete overview of serial port conflicts and gives detailed instructions for diagnosing and correcting these errors.

Strengths: It's a fun camera for "fun" projects.Weaknesses: Practically need Klieg lights or some sort of intense light to get a clear picture.Bottom Line: This is not a review so much as it is to confirm what two other reviewers posted about making the PhotoMAX software work and/or compatible with Windows XP.
I tried it and it works!!!! Thanks so much to reviewer JOESLY who posted his instructions on 1/17/04 - it took all of 5 minutes and I was able to use the software and download the images from my camera.
Also, reviewer "mrszimmy" on 2/16/04 gave some helpful advice and it is appreciated.
I can't believe that 6 people posted reviews and/or complained AFTER the review by JOESLY on 1/7/04. Don't people read other people's helpful reviews and at least try them. I'm glad that I did - look for the review I'm referring to and it will probably solve most of your problems with the PhotoMAX software issue in Windows XP.
FYI - I do think we should all complain to Polaroid for making it so difficult to find any answers on their website. Furthermore, it appears that ARCSOFT is the manufacturer for the PhotoMAX SE software and they are NO HELP at all either.
(I got my camera "free" as part of a special AOL offer when I had my Windows 98, which is why I put 0 as my purchase price)
