Summary:

Easy to use. although floppy disk only hold 5-6 photos at highest setting (1472) great for instant photos.

Strengths:

At 1472 I can print 13 X 19 photos using Adobe 6, Epson 1270 printer and epson paper. Sharp, good color & b&w photos. As ggod as my old darkroom.

Weaknesses:

Not good for action photos. Lag time about 2-3 seconds, Zoom lens not wide enough without an add on wide angle lens.

Similar Products Used:

Used sony 5, and 7 models. The 90 is better.

Customer Service:

never used them.

Review 3 of 20

Summary:

I think this a very nice all around camera. Sony products tend to be on the expensive side (as well as the accessories). Look for a good deal. Floppy cameras are on the way out and prices might drop dramatically soon. Keep your eyes open. If you like the convenience of direct viewing of images from a disc without downloads, want good macro and zoom capabilities, go for it! IMO getting an extended warranty is recommended. This is a relatively complex unit with a lot of motors and moving parts and hence more to go wrong. A few extra bucks spent now might be worth it down the road.

Strengths:

Very easy to use. Operation is intuitive and menus are easy to follow, even without thorough reading of instructions. Images for a 1.3 megapic are quite good, I think. Ability to view pics directly (jpg) from floppy on any computer without download software. Nice optical zoom capability and great macro. Battery gives time remaining.

Weaknesses:

Lack of optical view finder is a minus, both in terms of the LCD not being bright enough and difficult to read in sunlight and the fact that when using high zoom factors it helps to use your head as a steadying point. There's a bit of shutter lag and it seems to be variable depending on lighting and flash setting. I wouldn't recommend this camera for "action" photography. Rather high compression of images (although this is a necessary evil in order to get a reasonable number of pics on a floppy disc). ISA equvilant of 100 is a bit low for low light without flash and is not changable as in some digicams. Uses a proprietary battery pack which is not cheap if you want a spare.

Have not yet had to contend with them.

Summary:

I own the FD81 where I shot about 20000 pictures with. When I went looking for another mavica camera, the FD90 seemed the logical choice. I compared photos under the same conditions and was astonished that the fd90 was truly unworthy of being a sony mavica. the pictures were completely washed out .the color rendition was very poor to say the least, lucky for me I changed the fd90 for a Nikon 800.and am very satisfied.

Strengths:

long zoom although shakes allot and blurs image, great battery and decent macro

Weaknesses:

everything accept strengths

Review 5 of 20

Summary:

I am generally satisfied with the camera, takes good pictures and is fun to use. You always have film and you don't have to wait months to use it up to get it developed.

Strengths:

Easy to use. Menu not cluttered easy to follow. Floppy Disc memory and Memory Stick good choices for me. You can alwys get a floppy disc someware if you need one. Large LCD screen.

Weaknesses:

Slow processing the picture, LCD screen not bright enough in bright sunlight, have to keep the back light on. Can not take an action shot. The manual is bad. This is my first experience with digital stills, taken lots of 35mm pix with good cameras. Tme manuals that I got with the 35mm cameras explain more about action and results. I still don't know what resolution to use. The manual is not printed on good paper and will not hold up after much use. The manual is too big to fit in the accessory camer case for the Mavica camera. No optical view finder. Too many Mavica models with one not being much better than the other. The MSRP is too high for this camera.

Similar Products Used:

I have tried the Olympus FD490. Good camera no USB connector down loading takes a little longer. The optical view finder was too small and the diopter would not adjust far enough for me.

Customer Service:

Not much help. I enquired about the LCD screen not being bright enough in the sunlight to determine if this is normal. I did not get an answer except if I thought I and a problem to send it in for repair. I still don't know if this the norm for this camera.
