Review 1 of 47

Price Paid:  $250.00 from Montgomery Wards

Summary:

Do not buy the Toshiba PDR-M4 or PDR-M60 camera. AFter a year and half of gentle use the mode selector dial fell off in my hand just like the many many others writing reviews on the web about this camera. Toshiba charges the cost of a new camera to repair it despite that it is a defective camera and should be recalled. Do some research and you will confirm this is true.

Strengths:

very easy to use

Weaknesses:

The mode dial falls off before less than 2 years of gentle, infrequent use.

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:

After 2 years my mode dial fell off. I complained to Toshiba and received the link to their Q&A section. Search Ebay for PDR M4 and you will find a bunch of Toshiba`s for sale cheap--with the mode/ shutter dial unattached. I wouldn`t buy from Toshiba under any circumstances.

Weaknesses:

mode dial falls off

Review 4 of 47

Price Paid:  $200.00 from E-bay

Summary:

This camera was pretty good for about a year. Camera took good pictures. Red eye reduction on this camera is pretty bad. We found that even when turned on this camera gave the "devil eye" effect to a lot of our pictures. I bumped a tabel and the camera tipped over and the knob broke.

Strengths:

Very user freindly. Good camera for a novice user.

Weaknesses:

THE KNOB!!!

Similar Products Used:

Canon Power Shoot.

Customer Service:

Not very good.

Review 5 of 47

Price Paid:  $200.00 from ebay

Summary:

Like just about everybody else, the mode dial broke off my camera. And of course, Toshiba is absolutely no help. Their response is to offer you a trade-in or an upgrade in products. They even give you a new phone number to call because they don't even handle it theirselves. Very poor customer service. I took the camera apart though and had a go at it myself. It wasn't very hard to fix, but it wasn't very easy either. Toshiba couldn't tell me the part number, so I called a service center and the guy knew exactly what I needed because he has fixed a couple dozen. You need part number P000357030 - Mode Dial. It has the whole assembly with the ribbon cable and everything. It's about $30, plus tax and shipping. After 1 year in the drawer, I get to use the camera again. You can fix it yourself for $40, although it will probably break again. Get the part from Hermans - http://www.hermanelectronics.com/ItemInfo.asp?Part=&Frecno=4658381

Strengths:

Durable aluminum case (except for plastic dial), fast transfer

Weaknesses:

Mode dial!!!! 4 1mm plastic prongs hold it on, and they break very easily. Picture quality isn't that great anyway.

Similar Products Used:

35mm SLR

Customer Service:

Don't bother calling.
