Price Paid:  $588.00 from Service Mda

Summary:

New to digital everything, I found this camera user friendly. The menu and options are easy also. The display for changing setting within the proper range. I also like the screan on back-bigger than most, I think. You get movie mode, voice recording for hours, macro, various setting (6) for different kinds of use. You get alot for the price. This was not my first choice, received it as a gift and I am thrilled with it. The manuel, the rechargable batteries and the loads of features are bundled very nicely. The connections to the computer USV port another positve. Not large, comfortable to handle in both men and womens & childrens hands. My kids I encourage to use it. They are 14 yrs old boys.

Strengths:

Rechargable batters, Accesabilty to changing settings, has macro, zoom is excellent, many options including movie mode, also can record voices for hours. Also love the image expert that comes with the camera. Best program to work on photos.

Weaknesses:

Flash, not strong enough, like most other digital cameras,(don''t want to add on) Hate the lense cap, bought an Olympus squeeze type for it, Now i can deal with it. The lense cap I bought to keep the lense clean seems to distort the colors somewhat on photos.

Similar Products Used:

Olymps 490 and the 510. My camera is far better, but for the money they paid it was very good quality.

Customer Service:

When I called they were always very helpful. Wish they had more places to buy their product to go with these cameras.

Review 2 of 37

Summary:

This was my first digital camera. In the past I have had several SLR cameras of good quality. This particular camera is a "sleeper" - not to mention deceptive in its appearance. The quality of pictures it produces are exceptional, even among other cameras in its price range and above.

I had purchased the camera for two main reasons: it was highly recommended by other reviewers, and I found it at a very good price. Since I had been used to the SLR style cameras, my foray into the digital domain was a totally new experience. Before purchasing the camera I did numerous comparisons between other cameras of comparable value. I found the construction of the Toshiba to be less than what I had been used to, but it was much like the construction of most other digital camera manufacturers.

This particular camera shows a lot of ingenuity and careful thought in its construction and layout. Its menus are intuitive and easily used. The transfer of images from camera to computer works quickly and flawlessly. The software provided makes cataloguing and modifying images a pleasure. Since this camera provides many opportunities to override automatic controls, it gives me the freedom to be more creative and to manually adjust settings to my preference.

This camera has two main weaknesses: an inability to focus correctly in low light, and an LED screen that is difficult to read outside in sunlight. I knew these weaknesses before my purchase so they were not a surprise to me. These are small trade-offs in lieu of the quality of camera I received .Soon after purchasing the camera I bought a new lens cap and a UV filter to protect the lens.

I am extremely happy with my purchase and feel I got a real bargain. The camera has more than lived up to my expectations and I can highly recommended it to anyone from beginner to professional.

Strengths:

Picture quality, ease of use, excellent functionality, great value for the dollar.

Weaknesses:

General construction (just be careful with it and you'll be fine), LED readability outdoors, Low light focusing.

Customer Service:

none needed.

Review 4 of 37

Summary:

Our family loves this camera. We stopped using our video camera because it is much more convenient to carry this thing around. The video quality isn't that great, but it beats no video at all. My friends like to borrow this camera also. On the negative side the zoom lens broke because it was left on, extended, on my wife's purse. It took Toshiba forever to fix it. Our Toshiba PDR-M4 got water damage. It took them 4 months to fix that problem. They returned it once, and the battery didn't charge. I had to send it back to finish the repairs. I'm looking forward to my next digital camera purchase. The main thing I'm going to look for is better video quality.

Strengths:

Video with sound. Big beautiful still pictures.

Weaknesses:

Autofocus in low light. Color in low light. Very susceptable to hand jitter for the still pictures.

Similar Products Used:

Toshiba PDR-M4

Customer Service:

It takes them 2-3 months to fix a problem. :-(

Our family loves this camera. We stopped using our video camera because it is much more convenient to carry this thing around. The video quality isn't that great. Change the default color setting to vivid and you'll get the Sony look, which is very strong colors. I think most people prefer this setting over the somewhat bland normal setting.
