Summary:

This camera is both disappointing and gratifying at the same time. It is disappointing because of its image quality, which is lower than the Fuji MX1200, which FYI was a 1.3 megapixel model with fixed focus and arrived to market a year or two befor the Vivitar. The Vivitar has too much noise. Way too much noise. See some of the shots I post to see how bad it is. And noise in flash photos, especially black areas of the image, is oddly high. A very weird trait of this camera. And flash photos come out overexposed at least 1/2 the time, especially outside. Not good. And even at highest resolution at the medium image quality setting very heavy JPEG artifacting enters the image. The camera is good in several respects though. The control layout is very logical, and easy to get used to. For instance, the menu and power buttons are within easy reach of the index finger, as are the self timer and digital zoom and LCD on/off buttons. However, the flash setting and image quality/size are located out of reach of either hand to prevent accidental miss setting. Also, the mode dial is very easy to figure out and has no clutter.

Strengths:

1. Good control layout 2. reliable, I hit mine with a horseshoe while it was in my pocket but only the battery door broke, needs just a piece of tape to keep in place.

Weaknesses:

1. Sometimes atrocious image quality 2. Bad LCD screen, not bright enough for outdoor use at all basically and ultra low resolution, plus it sometimes creates color sparkles in highlight detail areas. 3. NO burst mode
