Summary:

This was my first digital camera and I have been very pleased with it. I bought this used from someone that wanted to upgrade, I think this camera has gotten a bad rap here. Since buying this camera I have also gotten a used Kodak dc50, and a new sony fd73, For outside photography and if your careful to watch you distance on flash shots this camera's pics are superior to either of my other cameras, the interface soft ware that comes it is much better than the kodak's, the other plus is it's use of reg AA batteries, 6 of them, but mine have lasted for a year so far, about 500 pics, the minuses are, you must watch your distance when using the flash, under 8 or so feet the pic will start washing out, over 15 and it will get a little dark, the other is the time between shots because of the compression firmware, but how else could you get 100+ shots of high quality pics on a 4 meg flashcard, NOBODY else does that! and for a long trip the is a BIG plus!!! Since getting the sony I passed this on to my teenage daughter who is having a ball with it, But when I want a really nice pic, I still borrow it from her......lol

Strengths:

Great quality for the money Software interface, exellent! Easy on batteries

Weaknesses:

limited flash range time between pics

Similar Products Used:

Kodak DC50 Sony fd73

Summary:

First camera I purchased was defective, Vivitar replaced it with a refurbished camera, floppy disk included was defective, replaced that with a floppy for the ViviCam 3100. This software is NOT Windows 98 compatible! For the short period of time (while still using Win95) that I was able to use the camera, pictures at best, were mediocre. I only take pictures of houses, I can't imagine what the pictures would look like if I were attempting to capture people! The big plus for me (aside from the price) was the fact that you did get a brief sound bite in with each picture. Would NOT recommend purchasing this product unless still using Windows 95, and are not looking for any quality in photos but need sound bites.

Strengths:

Price Protected Lens Compact & Light weight Sound Bites Ease of use

Weaknesses:

Poor Quality Photos Little or no Factory Support Difficulty finding correct Flash Memory Cards Limited adjustments to pics through software No software updates for Win98

Similar Products Used:

Several Sony Models from the low end floppy disk cameras to the mid range Memory Card models.

Customer Service:

If you use Vivitar on line Customer Service (reply promised in 72 hours) you can wait over a month & they won't respond, faxes go unanswered, can not get through via phone.

Summary:

This camera is so bad it's sale borders on fraud. I have no idea what they used to take the pictures on their website or where they got their specs from. I bought this camera 2+ years ago and after taking some 300 pictures (with aprox 20 images to a set of batteries) I could not even get one that resembles the scene I snapped the shutter on. It's almost like it has some oil painting effect thats on full time. I sell on online auction sites and needed a digicam to take pictures of items I was selling. My reputation is too good to attempt to resell this camera, It's too bad Vivitar didn't feel the same.. The picture I put on the sample image page is one of the better downloaded from this camera. I don't recomend this camera to anyone who is serious about digital photography.

Strengths:

Will hold down 10 sheets of paper in a 15mph breeze

Weaknesses:

See above.

Customer Service:

Summary:

At time of purchase the Vivitar 3000 was one of the best offers (pixel for the dollar). The CMOS chip conserves battery consumption very well. However the plastic lens produces too much glare! Great for beginner with tight budget.

Strengths:

Great battery life. Photo quality improves with each software upgrade. With 2 meg flash card I am able to store more than 50 photos!

Weaknesses:

Bulky in size. Plastic lens and flash produces to much glare. No zoom. Software not compatible with windows 2000.

Customer Service:

Good service. Very Helpful.
