Summary: I PURCHASED THIS CAMERA A FEW YEARS AGO AT THE SAME TIME AS I ORDERED MY COMPUTER. SINCE MY COMPUTER TOOK A FEW WEEKS SHIPPING I DID NOT OPEN THE CAMERA UNTIL A MONTH OR SO AFTER THE PURCHASE DATE.SINCE IT CANT BE DOWNLOADED WITHOUT A COMPUTER.. THE DAY I OPENED THE CAMERA I CHARGED THE BATTERY PACK, PUT IN MY CAMERA AND THE CAMERA SAID BATTERIES WERE DEAD! I REPEATED THIS SEVERAL TIMES...RETURNED AND EXCHANGED THE BATTERY PACK TWICE! STILL DID NOT WORK IN THIS CAMERA...CIRCUTI CITY WOULD NOT EXCHANGE THIS UNWORKING MANUFACTURE DEFECTED CAMERA I HAD JUST PURCHASED FROM THEM..SALES PERSON SAID TOO BAD YOU SHOULD HAVE GOT THE INSURANCE! THE ONLY WAY I HAVE EVER BEEN ABLE TO USE IT IS WITH THE AC ADAPTER. I HAVE NOT PURCHASED ANYTHING FROM CIRCUIT CITY EVER SINCE. NEITHER HAS ANYONE IN MY FAMILY. THIS CAMERA SUCKS.
Weaknesses: DOES NOT WORK WITH BATTERIES. DOES NOT WORK IN THE CLOSE UP MODE. WILL NOT FOCUS.
Summary: This camera takes some awesome pictures. It has good ease of use. It can be frustrating when taking pictues in the evening/night time when there is low lighting. I do not know how to adjust the manual settings to make the pictures come out right, but other than that, the pictures always come out very nice. I've use the camera for 1 year now, and I am shopping around for a new one already for various reasons. First, I want a smaller, more compact camera. Second, the quality of the casing is very poor....the battery door and memory card door are very flimsy and can break easily. My battery door is damaged (not sure how because I don't remember dropping it), but it still closes. Also, I connected a 3V power adapter to it (to save the battery life) and somehow the camera completely stopped working all of a sudden. It wouldn't turn on...nothing. I've used the adapter for several months with no problem. My sister has the same camera and it did the same thing to her camera. Maybe it's just the adapter, but I don't want to risk it happening again so I am going to get a new camera after doing some more research on the newest ones available.
Strengths: Great picture quality, ease of use, user friendly, very clear LCD screen. I sometimes have problems transferring pictures to the Kodak EasyShare software.
Weaknesses: Could be a little smaller and lighter weight. Poor casing construction (can crack or break if you are not very gentle with it); quick battery drainage with the LCD screen on (as with just about any digital camera)....I recommend the CRV3 batteries for this camera...pricey, but has a longer life.

Summary: We were looking for a digital camera to replace our aging Canon AE1 film camera. We were looking in the 3-4 megapixel range. It's an easy to use camera, but you don't have control over the amount of compression used in the images. In some cases, the compression is a bit too harsh and the images look a tad blotchy. The Canon A70 does take slightly better pictures, with more accurate colour saturation and slightly better sharpness, but the Kodak is much easier to use.
We also bought a 256Mb SD card and rechargeable NiMH AA-sized batteries, and a card reader.
I opted to not install Kodak's software since I can download the images readily using the card reader.
Strengths: - Easy to use
- Good pictures in most light settings, both indoor and out
- 4x optical zoom
- long battery life
- excellent, bright LCD viewer
Weaknesses: - images could be sharper
- no control over JPEG compression level
- flash occasionally weak

Summary: I purchased this camera after reading many of these reviews but after 3 months and almost 2000 pictures later I have mixed feelings about the DX6340. When I made my purchase I only bought the camera and a 128 Meg card. My intent was to use the card reader that I already own and import my images into Adobe Photoshop 7.0 or CS. The picture quality and features of this camera are among the best I have seen and used in the point and zoom digital camera arena. Where this camera fails is with the Kodak Easy Share software, Kodak's technical support, and Kodak's decision to make the jpeg files from this camera proprietary.
First the Easy Share software played havoc with my PC running windows ME so uninstalled it. I did not spend time trouble shooting this because I did not want to use the Kodak software. I have heard several complaints from other owners regarding the Easy Share software and Window operating systems. Buyers beware.
Second, Kodak has made their jpeg files proprietary so that you must use the Kodak Easy Share software or at least the Kodak Card Reader software that comes on the CD with the camera. If you do not buy the printer dock or Kodak card reader you can import your images into the camera patiently through the USB port. If you plan on using another brand of card reader you will be disappointed. Kodak’s tech support has admitted to me that the DX6340 will not work with some card readers. Kodak I guess feels that it can change industry standards. If you plan on using a computer other than your own, you must load the Kodak Easy Share software to be able to open the images. This problem is only apparent with PC’s. Using a Macintosh with OS10 with my third party card reader, I can open the Kodak jpegs fine in Adobe Photoshop 7.7 or CS. This same card reader that I use for other manufacturers camera cards will not allow images to be opened in Photoshop 7.0 or CS on my PC. Kodak’s tech support was not able to explain this phenomenon to me. I am stuck importing images through the cameras USB port.
Third, Kodak’s tech support is less than desirable. Kodak is supposed to reply within 24 hours to emailed requests to tech support. My replies came three to four days later. They must be busy. Anyhow, they did not resolve my card reader problem and basically told me to purchase a Kodak Card reader so that I can own two card readers. One for my Kodak Camera, and the other to use with all other manufacturers cameras.
Even though I am disappointed with this camera, there are some good points. The DX6340 takes great pictures with very low noise in low light. It is easy to use and has many great features.
Strengths: -Picture Quality, rates up there with the best.
-Low image noise.
-Great camera features
-Ease of use
-Camera firmware updates on line.
Weaknesses: It is because of Kodaks poor technical support that I give this camera an overall rating of 1.
-Kodak proprietary jpeg files requires the Kodak Easy Share software with PC's.
-Kodak tech support slow and not helpful.
-Easy Share software played havoc with my PC running Windows ME.
-Third party card readers may not work with this camera.
