    Strengths:    manual settings, stable metal case

    Weaknesses:    problems with focus at twighlight or in the dark, pics often blurred.
    The manual focus has no fine adjustment between 5m and infinity

    Powershot S40
    Nice and stable camera, pics with good quality, all necessary settings included

    Strengths:    The camera display is very clear; the battery charges quickly

    Weaknesses:    NOT FOR BEGINNERS. The auto function does not work very well. We got our first set of pictures developed and I was very disappointed - either they were blury or too dark. A month later we are still reading the manual to figure out how to set up the picture right. It takes way too long to get the picture set up.

    Bottom Line:   
    I bought this camera after extensive research adn thought that all the extra options would be helpful. I am pleased with it in general however and I hope the pictures get better once I figure out how to really use it. I had a Kodak 4230 previously and it was much easier to use. I went for the 4 mp thinking that it would be worth the money. Frankly I can't tell too much difference between this one and the 2 mp Kodak I had.

    Strengths:    Small, takes great pictures, a lot of features.

    Weaknesses:    not that easy to use.

    Bottom Line:   
    This is a pretty good camera. So far I have no complaints. I noticed that the previous reviewers state that the camera doesn't take clear pictures under low lights, I think this is because the long shutter time and the camera is not held steadily. Our hands tend to shake slightly when holding an object, if the shutter time is long under low lights, the pictures could be unclear due to the slight shake. If you use a tripot or put the camera on a steady surface, the pictures turn out to be pretty good under low lights.

    Strengths:    Now low price. Awesome picture clarity. ease of use.

    Weaknesses:    Weak Zoom Lens. Factory Battery doesn't last long. Not expandable (No hot shoe or interchangeable lens). Poor or at least hard to master indoor shots in lo light.

    Bottom Line:   
    Great Camera. Many useful features. some difficulty using indoors with lo light situations, but takes beautiful outdoor photos. If i learned to better use the many features, could probably even master the hard to take indoor shots.

    Strengths:    *Very small
    *quite fast autofocus compared to my EOS cameras
    *metal body
    *accurate flash with combination with white balance
    *menus are so simple that they seem to designed to a child
    *did I mention small size?
    *Full manual control - basic thing for me, I hate everything AUTO

    Weaknesses:    *As for me very usefull on/off lens cover, but I don't think it will last long
    *Too slow AF in lo light situations (assist light helps a bit, but sometimes night flash shots simplly come out unsharp)
    *too shiny (but black G2 or G3 are too big)
    *too light! (I can make sharp photos with my EOS 30 with 50 lens at 1/10 sek. and with this digital 1/30 is a limit)
    *too small optical viewfinder, although it is sharp
    *too small batteries

    Bottom Line:   
    About a month ago I decided that I need a small camera to take it everywhere with me. I found Leica M6 for quite resonable price but I already awn a great Fuji 645 rangefinder which simplly gives better quality pictures (medium format). Leica's owners claim to own best viewfinders - look through Fujis, it's much better. A friend adviced me to try out a digital camera. After long research I bought Canon S40. Wow! At first glance I was amazed by the size of the camera - it's in size of my Nokia mobile phone!

    I took some photos. Connection to computer is so simple that you can't make a mistake. A printed photo in size of 15*21 cm is naturally not the quality of a good 36mm, but for all those purposses where I want to use it, it's enough. I needed a small camera - this is very small, if it only had about 10MP it would replace my Fuji
    I concidered digital IXUS but 2MP is not enough.
