Review 1 of 2

Price Paid:  $499.00 from Fishkin Bros

Summary:

This camera is very easy to use. The settings can be made without the use of the manual, it is extremely user friendly. Low light focusing is better than my Nikon 5000 and pictures are just as good. Blowups can be made to 13X19 and still retain good quality. The size will make you want to take the camera places you would leave home an SLR.

Strengths:

Very sharp Lense, Good flexability, Very good feel for a small camera. Battery life is very good.

Weaknesses:

Files are just Jpeg. Flash is a bit weak. Does not seem to work with Sandisk cards.

Similar Products Used:

Nikon 5000

Customer Service:

after they checked my camera for use with the sandisk card and found no problem, I could not open a file with any photo program. The message was an unusable file in all applications

Review 2 of 2

Price Paid:  $500.00

Summary:

Purchased this model to replace a Kyocera S3 which I was quite happy with. The S5 updates the S3 nicely. The S5 sports a 3X (35mm-105mm equiv.)optical zoom and up to 4X digital zoom. Solid metal construction, SD/MMC storage, lots of user selectable options, and several resolution choices. Best of all, it takes wonderful pictures and is simple to use. Camera comes with software, USB cable, video and audio cables, and a 16MB SD card.

Strengths:

Smallest 5MP camera out there (with optical zoom). You'll take this camera along with you when you'd leave a bigger camera at home. Beautiful LCD display, usable in daylight is especially appreciated. New electronics and a higher capacity battery allows over 150 shots on a charge.

Weaknesses:

Lens a tad slow when zoomed out to 3X. Kyocera no longer supplies a SD card reader or the nifty drawstring soft case as they did with the original S3. Self-timer cancels after each shot.

Similar Products Used:

Kyocera S3.

Customer Service:

Not needed for this camera, but I've dealt with Kyocera (Contax/Yashica)in the past with other products, and they have been quite helpful.
