Review 1 of 65

Price Paid:  $140.00 from Ebay

Summary:

A cracking lens and pro-body build make this old timer a real steal on Ebay. The small outlay belies the highl quality of this camera which originally sold for well over USD1300. Do not be put off by the 4MP sensor as the print quality rivals anything around right up to 10 x 8's. But no cropping please! It focusses very accurately and is fast enough even by todays exacting standards. Write speeds are appalling and as most reviewers note this old boy is very power hungry. I now use Saiyo 4000mAh
Ni-MH extra high capacity batteries and can get over 500 shots on one charge.
A perfect camera for the keen amateur just starting out in digital - and the results are just so rewarding. I use mine for studio portrait work and people cannot believe the output is from 4MP only!

Strengths:

Well constructed and totally bullet proof even after 8 years of use.
Great lens

Weaknesses:

Just old tech but perfectly usable

Similar Products Used:

Olympus C2500-L , Olympus E-20P

Customer Service:

Never Needed to use.

Review 2 of 65

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:

This camera is a very nice piece of equipment, a real keeper. I've been using it for over a year now and I still enjoy it.

Strengths:

- Well built - High quality lens that works well in macro mode - Great price/performance ratio. A Canon with similar quality lens would cost you at least 2x more - A bargain for a professional work - CF card support - A real fun to use

Weaknesses:

- Requires a lot of battery power. I highly recommend use of 1900 mAh NiMH batteries or stronger with a high quality charger. - Slow writing speed, but not so relevant for outdoor and portrait work. There is no need to buy CF cards faster than 4x, because writing speed will not improve

Similar Products Used:

Canon G1, Olympus 3040, Olympus 4040

Review 3 of 65

Price Paid:  $1050.00 from Ebay

Summary:

Yes.. the buffer is slow between shots, yes.. the lens is not interchangeable and yes.. the extension lenses are expensive. Is this really a surprise to anyone ? To compare the performance of a digital camera with film camera is like comparing a laptop with a typewriter. I feel like olympus went the right way with the non interchangeable lenses. If you search the web long enough you will find that the best and most expensive digital slr cameras such as Nikon D1 has problems with dust collecting on the CCD chip. To fix this problem you either have to take the time to read up on cleaning directions or send it back to Nikon and spend gazillion $ and have down time. So to put it all in perspective, a little downtime between shots doesn't seem to be all that bad. As far as not being able to preview it fast enough on the field... ten years ago we didn't have that problem.

Strengths:

A tank... good build.. nice size.

Weaknesses:

None

Review 5 of 65

Price Paid:  $980.00 from bestpriceaudiovideo.

Summary:

For the price, this is the best digital made under $1000. at the time of this writing. I've taken some absolutely stunning vacation photos in Mexico. The colors are true and with the included Photoshop Elements software, you can even tweak under/over exposure shots to perfection. It's a beautifully designed camera that feels great in your hands. Loaded with features.

Strengths:

Very easy to work with. It doesn't take long to master the many features. The buttons are well placed and the menu is very easily accessed. It accepts both smart media and compact flash memory cards simultaneously. At High Quality setting, with two 128mb cards installed, you can take about 300 pix, about 150 at Super High Quality. The 3.9 megapixel is sufficient to print crisply up to 13"x19".

Weaknesses:

My main gripe and it's important to me: fastest shutter speed is only 1/640 and the smallest aperture is only f11. This limits what I can do with this camera. I took some pix of flying geese the other day at 1/640 and they were unacceptable. Their wings were completely blurred out. And the f11 aperture limits your depth of field.
