Review 1 of 4

Price Paid:  $370.00 from TOshiba

Summary:

This camera is a good, serviceable digital camera which makes good quality images. It is best used in indoor or or still life situations due to the boxy feel and the noticeable shutter lag.

Strengths:

Good image quality. Wide range of controls.

Weaknesses:

Boxy camera not ergonomic. Shutter lag very noticeable. Auto-poweroff annoying. Counter-intuitive controls.

Similar Products Used:

Sony digital

Customer Service:

none

Review 2 of 4

Price Paid:  $350.00 from etronics.com

Summary:

Last February, I was in the process of purchasing a new Dell 8200 Desktop and HP PSC 950 All-In-One and wanted to match up a new digital camera with the pair. I did a lot of research and found that dollar for dollar, I was not going to find a better deal than the PDR M81. Everything from the Toshiba website to their rebate offer which included a 32 Mb Delkin Smartmedia Card, 2 Case Logic Accessory Bags (in addition to the Toshiba Bag which came with the camera), a pack of e2 Lithium Energizers and free Lost and Found Protection told me that this was the way to go. Finding a blurb on the Toshiba website stating that the PDR M81 was outfitted with Canon optics sealed the deal. Buy this camera if you can point and shoot and want the best quality 8X10 prints imaginable.

Strengths:

1) 4.2 MegaPixels allows fantastic 8X10 printing through the PSC 950. The prints are as clear as the 6X9s taken by my Konica 35 SLR. 2)Toshiba website offers free firmware downloads to keep the camera as up to date as possible. 3)Comes with Sierra Image Expert Software so it is easy to do touch ups and special formatting. 4) 2.8 optical zoom is smooth and quick. 5) Has three ranges of settings, Full automatic, auto overide to white balance, night shots, forced flash, etc., and manual overide of just about everything when you really want to take control yourself. 6) Everything is menu-driven and very intuitive. You do not have to keep referring to the Owner's Manual to figure out how to do things. I have taken close to a thousand pictures with the PDR-M81 in the past nine months. THE PRINTS ARE TERRIFIC. THEY WOW THE FRIENDS AND RELATIVES.

Weaknesses:

Slight delay between image lock and shutter fire sometimes produces a slight blur if I forget to keep steady.

Similar Products Used:

Konica, Minolta

Customer Service:

Great so far. I received my Rebate items in less than 2 weeks.

Review 3 of 4

Price Paid:  $300.00 from Wolf Camara

Summary:

For $300, it's a bang for the dollar. A camara with decent picture quality and very convenient to use. Low light noise reduced significantly compare to MD70. A good choice for non-professional users.

Strengths:

4.2M pix. Low price. Easy to use. Manual control. Low noise in low-light conditions. Using 4 AAs. Compact size. Better macro.

Weaknesses:

Lens is slower and softer than MD70. Not coming with AC adaptor.

Similar Products Used:

Toshiba MD70, Olympus 3000, Olympus E10, Nikon 995.

Customer Service:

Not yet.

Review 4 of 4

Price Paid:  $469.00 from Alto Camera

Summary:

My first and hopefully last for a long time digital camera. Haven't used all features yet. Easy to use and get used to. Software easy to setup and use. 4.3MP uses alot of storage space on best quality, 8MB card is not near big enough. Lag time takes some getting used to also.

Strengths:

Excellent image quality. Excellent software.

Weaknesses:

Eats regular AA Alkaline batteries. Get rechargeable.

Customer Service:

EXCELLENT!!
