Summary:

My name is Gary and I'm new to the forum so Hi everyone. I'm looking forward to learning more from people with experience.

Sorry my first post is a slam on Kodak. The dirty dogs...

From the first day the camera (a z612) made a mechanical noise when focusing. The sound is amplified on video playback to the point that it is louder than the subjects speaking.
I have contacted Kodak which in turn had me send it to Precision Camera and Video as Kodak does not do their own repairs.

The first time I sent it in they said it was repaired but it still made the same noise. Kodak had me send it back. Precision called before returning it this time and I asked if it was fixed and they said yes.
Upon further questioning they admitted the camera still made the noises and all Z 612 cameras made these noises.

I called Kodak and they told me that it was not supposed to make the noises when they made it but it does and they are selling it anyway. (I can't believe they admitted it) The real kicker is they say this is normal for this model and to turn off the auto focus. Of course you can't take a video on single focus but that is their only response.

They also told me there was absolutely nothing that Kodak was going to do about it and tough luck, I should have bought another camera. I couldn't believe it.

I don't know about you but I have never been treated like this by a major manufacturer. Apparently they have no pride in their workmanship nor do they care about their customers.

If you buy this camera you are going to hate yourself. It's funny though because all of the reviews are great. Something else to think about. Go figure...

Nice meeting you all

6shooter

Strengths:

12x zoom

Weaknesses:

Makes a terrible noise when in video mode.

Similar Products Used:

Canon Powershot 100 and 410 both excelent cameras. All Canon digital cameras I have used are wonderful well thought out and functional. They also have great customer support.

Customer Service:

Non existent. It's an excuse line only

They do no work on their own cameras. Precision seems to be first rate they just can't fix something that never worked in the first place.
