Review 2 of 11

Price Paid:  $1400.00 from Futureshop

Summary:

This is the second camera I bought after using Powershot S1 IS. What a big difference it was ... I mean ... BIG. In a positive way of course. The Pro 1 has to be the best prosumer camera out there. I bought this camera after a canoeing mishap that took my S1 IS into the water with me and was too costly to repair. I decided to go for the Pro 1 at the time because I wasn't ready for an SLR and it came with features that were important to me - swivel lcd screen, movie mode, etc. And I never regretted it! The L lens really captures amazing quality photos. I now own a digital SLR but refuse to part with this one, so it's always with me as a backup. I highly recommend this camera to anyone who is ready to move on from a low-end consumer camera but still feels uncertain about SLR cameras. You won't be disappointed at what it has to offer you.

Strengths:

I can't stop saying how awesome the picture quality is. The L lens really does make a difference! It's also great for macro ... it's super macro mode gets you even closer shots!

Weaknesses:

Rather slow focus but you can always use manual with a twist of the ring.

Review 4 of 11

Price Paid:  $800.00 from B&H

Summary:

Update of earlier review (see below). With the firmware upgrade, this cameras AF performance is now slightly above average. Nothing spectacular, but it is now acceptable for general photography. My overall grade for this camera has gone from C- to B. So, get the new firmware, if you own this camera.
