Strengths: Brilliant zoom & clarity
Weaknesses: According to a lot of reviews I'd read before buying my PowerShot, the main gripe is that the lens cap can become lost because it's not attached to the camera body.
I overcame this by heating the point of a small guage knitting needle and making a hole in the lens can just under the 'C' of Canon. I then got some black heavy duty sewing thread, doubled it over and threaded it through the metal strap carrier. I twisted the thread (holding one end & twisting the other) lots of times, and then put both ends together. This formed a thicker 'rope'. (This may have to be attempted quite a few times until you get it right!) I threaded this rope from the front of the lens cap through to the back and made a large knot in it. This large knot stops dust from entering the area between the cap and the lens. I'm now confident that my lens cap won't go astray!!

Strengths: Zoom. Great price. Smooth controls. Excellent focus.
Weaknesses: Having read specs and reviews and knowing what I was getting, I have not found a weakness.
Possibly that I had to buy a bigger camera bag, but again, I knew in advance that it was going to be bigger than my older S1 IS Powershot.
To keep it short, the Canon SX10 provided the best first batch of images I"ve ever got from a digital camera. Comfortable to hold and operation was smooth as silk. Full zoom photos taken handheld of tree twigs 35 feet were crisp, preserving details of buds. Not easy to explain that, but I'm an arborist and take my word that this camera captured substantial crisp details. Details as small as one milliimeter - maybe smaller. Amazing for a point and shoot. It autofocused very good. As with my last Canon, I'm glad this uses 4 AA batteries. Simple and practical. A size I keep for my flashlights and other stuff.
