Price Paid:  $6999.00 from Central Mall - Pune

Summary:

Hi folks,

Bought this camera today. It came with a 2GB SD card free and I got a discount of Rs. 1000 off the MRP.
So far I have clicked the following types of shots
Good Light - indoor
Good Light - outdoor
Bad Light - Indoor

Also used the following features
High ISO - 3200
Auto Scene Recognition
Panorama

The results from all experiments so far are excellent. All images taken so far are very sharp, have caputred natural colours, and have minimum to none blurring. The Auto mode is the best for everyday photography, including situations of bad light and moving objects. While using the auto mode, the only function the user has to think about is whether flash is required or not. Although the Auto mode makes that decision also, however, in some situations, one may want to override that decision.

The zoom function moves ahead slowly, which is a good thing if you are new to digi cams. Since I bought this camera for my dad and he is new to digi cams. I like the fact that the camera zooms in and zooms out slowly, this will allow my dad to adjust to its usage.

The camera is very intuitive and easy-to-use. The intellignet use of buttons has ensured that the surface of the body has a very tidy and uncluterred look. This is also a good thing, specially if you are new to digi cams. Too many buttons and functions can confuse users, sometimes.

I compared this camera to three others while buying, the others were; NIkon L20, Kodak C190 and Canon IXUS95IS. Here is a comparison.

NikonL20: Picture quality comparable to the J27, however, costed Rs. 1000 more and uses pencil cells for power. Which means additional expenses for cells and charger. The Nikon also did not come with a memory card. Hence the NIkon was out.

Kodak C190: Picture quality a notch below the J27, costed less than the fujifilm, came with a 2GB card, however, uses pencil cells. So if I were to buy the Kodak, I would have to spend additionally for the battery and charger, after which my total expenses would be the same as the J27. That being the case, why should I compromise on the picture quality if I am paying the same price? Hence the Kodak was out. (This is the only camera which has a 5X Optical zoom lens and costs less than Rs. 8000)

Canon IXUS 95 IS: Everything about this camera is great and likeable. However, the cost is Rs. 10,999. This was out of my budget. Hence the Canon was out.

I am very excited about this purchase and my intial experiments reveal that the FujiFilm J 27 is a great buy at this price. My expectations, so far, have been exceeded.

Strengths:

Auto Scene Recognition
Anti-Blur
High ISO (3200)
Ease-of-use
Light weight (113gms)

Weaknesses:

Less Zoom (3X). Although this is at par with the inductry standard for this category. I would have liked 5X.

Similar Products Used:

Canon IXUS 95 IS (belongs to a friend)
Kodak Z700 (purchased in 2006, 4MP, 5X optical)

Customer Service:

Too early to experience.
