1. Price: the price you're paying you have a solid camera with good resolution.
2. Lens: average aperture range 3.5 - 5.3 which is sufficient for most situations. On SLRs you can buy 2.8 lenses at a premium. 20x zoom has a good range. Get good enlargements at ISO 800 or less.
3. Focus: fast and accurate.
4. Stabilizer: works nicely. Warning for possible hand-vibration nice feature.
5. Macro: works very well instead of paying a premium for a macro lens with stabilizer.
6. Popup flash: does get rid of a lot of red-eyes by placing flash slightly above eye-level. Cameras usually have a red-eye setting by firing the flash once before taking the actual shot. You have an extra button to press on the side.
7. Play & On/Off button: takes a few s hold before activation. When leaving your camera in your pocket you're not likely going to turn on something accidentally and drain the battery.
8. Size: very portable. An SLR with even a modest 70-300 F4-5.6 lens you need a separate gadget bag. Has a nice grip.

1. On their brochure the newer F800 supposed to offer better low-light capabilities.
2. Multiple exposure available on the F800 but not here.
3. Shutter speeds down to 8s sufficient but not as refined as some cameras with a B or T option available to increase exposure time as needed.
4. Focus: you can set aperture & shutter manually. Would prefer to have a button for MF as well. Certain instances you'd find locking your focus on a fixed distance faster than waiting for your camera to do it... such as landscapes at night by fixing your lens on infinity.
5. ISO range like P&S with 100, 200, ... 6400, 12800 with nothing in between like SLRs. Anything above I-800 is a gimmick. Allow you to capture the image but grainy. Some can go higher on the ISO without seeing grain.
6. Resolution: although has a lot of mpix but due to the smaller sensor you're not much better than an older Nikon D90.
7. Menu: straight-forward except for a few minor things such as switching between shutter & aperture on M mode and turning the Silent Mode on/off needed to refer to manual when first used.
8. Not as many built-in image touch-up features as some cameras.
9. Price: the new model is coming but a lot of stores are not discounting the old stock while waiting for the new stock to arrive.

The camera does have very good resolution and nice features. For travelling if you don't want a gadget bag to hold your lenses & accessories, this is the camera to consider.

Your pictures can be as good as a low-end SLR but without some of the refinements.

Compare to other brands with similar cameras (Nikon, Sony) Fujifilm is very price competitive.

You're not buying an SLR so you don't have the option of attaching F2.8 lenses or super-wide fish-eye lenses. If you want the flexibility of changing lenses without the bulk, you can consider mirror-less SLRs.
