Strength:

Easy to use but with very hgh quality photography
Flexible manual controls for creative shots as well!
Special Auto features that combine manual with automatic exposure control.
Ability to store custom set-ups for quick selection later.

Weakness:

Slow from shutter to shoot in auto modes (but that is common in digital photography!

The FujiFilm finepix S1800 was an excellent choice for me. I do damage investigation, inspection and forensic photography. I had to have a camera that produced accurate high quality pictures that is quick to set up and easy to use, with features that allow me to shoot in low light, extreme close-up and wide angles for close proximity without lens changes. I also do fine art and experimental photography so I wanted a camera that was capable of high-end quality as well as great point and shoot features. It was a great match for those needs. It is a full featured camera with an 28mm wide angle to 18X digital zoom and optical zoom lens. The digital zoom can be turned off, It has a feature not found in many cameras I shopped; like both a macro for close-ups and a super macro for picking up the hair on an ant! (2mm to 3 feet) focal range). This was the feature I needed to show the big picture, then a close-up .followed with a microscopic view to record physical conditions for others to base important decisions upon. Combined with these is the dual image stabilization feature allowing you to choose from three conditions: one that is on constantly for shooting HD video, Number two that is active only when you push down on the shutter and the third is off for tripod use. This feature is especially handy when you take a low light shots in the super macro position or zoomed way out.
This camera is very easy to learn. I spent one day reading the manual and trying all of the set-ups and trying each with about 10 shots in each mode and loading them on my laptop by pulling out the 2 gig SD card (optional $9.95) and plugging it into my laptops reader. I was amazed at how many of those crazy experimental shots I kept! The set-up design is excellent as well. The setups which are changed less often are farthest away from the two state, quad-serial list. The S1800 has four parallel options which divide the 22 different changable selections. I like how the features least often changed are the ones farthest from or deeper into the selection process. Also that the features most often changed have their own buttons! The shooting features such as f stop speed and senstivity (ISO using familiar ASA notation) has an "F" button, the veiwing options have an arrow symbol button (play button), the choice between a eye viewer (EVF) or the large (LCD) button, a seperate (back) button which reverses all of the setup choices to avoid selecting anything unwittingly. And an adjustment button to adjust variable attributes of manual controls. It is ergonomically comfortable and nice to hold. The shutter button has deep motion so you can easily feel the difference between focus and shoot! The zoom control is right underneath the shutter so you can size the shot and then move your "trigger" finger up to shoot! or move the zoom with a differnt finger and keep your index finger on the shutter!
Without reading the manual I was able to navigate the controls and acquire most of the knowledge needed to make good pictures! This camera is not a digital SLR but actually better... when it involves having a huge variety of exposure control. I think about 6000 to 9000 different types of shots are centered around just 6 positions on one switch and 5 or 6 on another! Generally, the manual settings allow you to control everything, the program settings allow you to overide some exposure aspects and combine them as well, then the SP are as with many cameras but the SRAuto is very special.
